Damn I love this 242 (and USCG)

I have a 86 242LS, small block Alpha. Nothing fancy but very well maintained and looks great. I normally boat out of Caseville Mi. we had invited some friends over the winter to come on the boat and go across Saginaw bay to Tawas. (25 miles)We nailed down a date . I was watching the marine report and it wasn’t looking good.

They show up about noon and I said I would see how it looks, we motor out on a course set for Tawas. 2-4’ confused seas but the boat was handling really well, no pounding so I said what the hell and kept going.

The way this boat handles these decent sized waves is amazing, tracks straight and lands well, no pounding. The prop came out of the water a few times but other than some stuff tossed around in the cabin she sucked it up.

I’m coming from a 250 Sundancer and I would have never even thought about taking this trip. We went to Tawas, ate at a great Mexican restaurant (Mangos) did some shopping and headed back, I had a $hi+ Eating grin on my face the whole time.

I’ve already decided the next boat is going to be a 272 or 292 with twins.

There are days when I still miss my 242 SS. I think you will like the bigger versions (272 or 292) even better. Twin engines makes the boat run it is on rails.

Great hearing this kind of discussion/comments. I am coming out of a 16' Glastron-Carlson CVX (Yamaha 115 outboard) to a F-311 SR-1 with twin 500hps...SO I an listening/learning a lot!

oh, and we were greeted by the USCG when we arrived in Tawas by their 45’ medium response boat for a safety check. (I think the two bikinis on board may have had something to do with it) anyway, passed with flying colors.https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...730ead27b.jpeghttps://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...fe5a580ea.jpeg

You guys must know how to run a 292 better than we could. In true 3-4’s we got our asses kicked. It was the primary reason for us moving to a 38’.

Oh, believe me. It wasn't smooth but it sure wasn't pounding. A smaller boat in that size waves and you definitely have some elevation changes. :)
