Formula 330 SS Perma Panel questions
 

Long time OSO member and recent lurker on the Formula forum. Looking at a 1999 330 SS and I have read everything here, including tpenfield's big adventure with water and wood. The survey on this boat suggests that a similar adventure awaits the purchaser. Looking at the vintage formula brochure website it appears that Formula switched to Perma Panel pressure treated and fungicide treated plywood in 2000. So the question is "Did this change help, and should I be looking for a 2000+ boat?" If I had to do what tpenfield did, what allowance should be made in price to cover that much work? I don't have his skills. Unfortunately the 330 never got the fiberglass grid structure used in the 370 and 400.

I might be a bit late for your decision-making, but I would figure about $7K to do a bulkhead via a repair shop. The fuel tank probably would need to come out in order to replace the bulkhead. If the engines had to come out, I'd figure $10K.

Thanks for the reply. My hat's off to you for having the skills to do this and taking the time to report it to rest of us! I passed on the boat because it needed everything you did, plus the survey said transom and center stringer too. I got a quote of $12-17K from the local fiberglass repair guy, based on your pictures and the survey.
