382 anyone try spinning in?

I’m prop testing a 382 with 650 hot 525 Efis. Can’t get it dialed in. Going to try a set of hydromotives off our race boat and was wanting feedback if anyone has tried spinning in. I know the cigs and fountains we have done prefer it. Thanks

I had a 2002 382 with 500's built to 630hp/700tq 540's, no boxes, and found the best props for me were 32 Bravos. They weren't the fastest but I was searching for best cruise speed. Fastest were labbed 30's because I could get 5,700 rpms out of them. (Best cruise props were a set of full diameter 28 Maximus but they were drive killers). Everything was spinning out and we never tried spinning in. (actually, I think my old boat may have ended up at LOTO???)

I tried spinning in on my 353. It sucked the stern in and allowed the bow to carry better. I think it ran better that way. That said, it sucked around docks. So much, that in the end, I went back to turning out.

That's how the factory set it up and I think turning out is overall more functional on a Fastech.

Labbed Maximus props BTW..

When we first set up the 700NXT's of fossil fuel we spun in. Saw 95.5 gps at havasu. I did not mind the docking challenges. What I did mind was the hunting at 50-65 mph. It had slight porpoising at those speeds. Tabs way down would help. I even put bigger plates on the tabs to give me more surface. At 60 the roost from the tabs was bigger than the drives. Above 65 it was rock solid...... so after awhile I decided to swap the drives over to spin out. I had to put 1" spacers to get the bite I needed to get up on plane and I lost 5-6 mph. But the porpoise was gone and I took the added plates off the tabs. I think all in all I would have stayed with the original setup as I liked the way it ran over 65. This is a totally different setup than a hydromotive on a Bravo drive boat though.
