Formula 242ss new to me

So just picked up my first Formula. I have loved them for as long as I can remember. Is there abetter option for the cheap looking plastic gas fill. My other boat has a polished stainless fill much nicer. A few cosmetic issues as far as I can tell, then be ready for water.

Welcome to the family. Let’s see some pics of the new bird

Alwhite00 07-24-2020 08:12 PM

Welcome to the club! We love ours, for a 24’ boat they are a wave crusher. 1’-2’ waves is the Sweet spot. 😎

b_fuss 07-25-2020 12:15 AM

I will post some pictures soon. I keep getting the message about 10 posts??

Smoke eater 07-25-2020 05:34 AM

Must have 10 posts to put pictures. Just respond a few times and you’ll be good to go

Ratty206ls 07-25-2020 06:08 AM

The 242 doesn’t have stainless fuel fill? Post some details about it and how you got it,seems like all these old birds got a story.

b_fuss 07-25-2020 10:19 AM

Sounds like a good plan. I got it from an auction. Seems it was someones pride and joy, trailer and boat are paint matched. The seats are usable, but the wood is kinda rough on a few pieces.

b_fuss 07-25-2020 10:20 AM

Forgot to mention 7.4l Bravo One 800 hours

By the way any of you owners seen this one before?

b_fuss 07-25-2020 11:01 AM

I am a little bit worried this boat is going to feel too small. My current boat is a 1990 Sae Ray 260cc. Here it is attached to a 2500hd Suburban.

should be about the same wet length for both. Why the formula if you already have a similar sized sea ray?

b_fuss 07-25-2020 10:57 PM

I always wanted a Formula. This came up, I had the money. I thought it was a good price so I bought it.

b_fuss 07-25-2020 11:01 PM

Question for all you experts. My other boat has a fuel filter/ water separator in the front of the engine this doesnt? Think it never had it, or it was removed?

GLENAMY 242SS 07-26-2020 06:35 AM

Congrats on the boat, you will love the space the 242 SS has in the cockpit.
I can see the fuel/water separator in the front of your engine on the starboard front of the engine. Yours is white, it is the same diameter as a oil filter and resembles one.
It is down low below your dipstick.
Good luck with the boat. More interior pictures required.

Thanks Glenamy! I am dumb. I got wat too much stuff going on in life.

Very Nice 242. The 242 rides real nice in a little chop for a 24 footer.

I agree on the fuel fill. I just upgraded mine, see pic. Cpperformance item.

It has begun. Someone ran this dry looks a little melted. I checked it cause the exhaust felt really warm. I already back flushed the oil cool looking for chunks. The impeller was whole, but one small piece came out when I pulled the hoses for the raw water pump. BTW this boat is a pain to get the pump off. Wholly chit!!

GLENAMY 242SS 07-27-2020 06:39 AM

Try accessing it through the deck plate by the rear seat. You can get your hands around it from there.

Ratty206ls 07-27-2020 08:55 PM

Good looking boat. If your vinyl is in good shape pull the staples off and use old wood for template. I did this with my engine hatch and it worked out great. I ended up using the more expensive ply at big box store and coated it with resin then stapled old vinyl on new wood . Looks like an eagle trailer no? No surprise an old bird needing a little love, hopefully she doesn’t nickel and dime you into regret

Thanks I always liked the lines. The trailer looks identical to a trail rite, so that.s what I think it is. I replaced the wheel cylinders today, trailer has brakes now. Also finished the raw water pump.
Good idea on the upholstery wood, i have done that on my other boat. All the wood on the back seat is pretty rough.

ya the arm rest on my backseat need attention. The vinyl is tough but the wood isn’t that bad for 32 years old even though cup holders drain into them.

b_fuse. Looks like MohavValley on another forum is a friend of yours. If so I am the person he called/will be calling about. If you can help me out on this I would be in your debt.
If you have any questions on the 242 SS let me know I currently own that model as does a good friend of mine. We have both completely gutted and re-done every aspect of our boats.
Again thank you if you can help me out and best of luck with your new boat.
Also it looks like you have a Bravo 1 prop on it now, if you can borrow a 23" Quad 4 to try I bet you will like the handling and ride MUCH better, also performance.

b_fuss 08-01-2020 03:37 PM

No Problem Gary I will help if I can. The prop that came on it is a Quicksilver Nemesis. I looked up that prop, seems totally wrong. Who makes the quad 4 prop?

GLENAMY 242SS 08-01-2020 03:57 PM

Hydromotive Q IV.
On a side note the boat listing in PHX has been removed. Thank you for your help.

Didn't do much, but your welcome.

BTW i was trolling through some posts saw your cleaned up bilge pictures. Looks like you have some o2 sensors? or am i seeing things? Please explain or point me to thread to read more. Thanks

masi242 08-02-2020 08:36 AM

Gary is a wealth of knowledge on the SS as are many others Formulas are great boats, good luck with yours

Alwhite00 08-02-2020 11:10 AM

Make sure to use stainless staples.

GLENAMY 242SS 08-03-2020 08:06 AM

Yes, DLG-1: Dual Lambda (Air/Fuel Ratio) Gauge.
Here is a link to their website.

https://innovatemotorsports.com/products/dlg1.php

Be sure you use 90* extenders, sold through amazon, without these you will be eating sensors at $75 a pop.
I found these)2 sensors very handy in tuning the carb to get low 12's across the entire throttle range. You will be surprised how you need to fiddle with the carb but it can be done and is actually fun.
Once set up a just glance tells you how the engines are running. Call me if you have any questions.
Gary

Redneckcustoms13 08-03-2020 11:59 AM

Gary, do you think he could benefit from a qiv quad 24p? I have one hanging out in the shed.

SORRY I meant a REV 4 prop depending on motor either a 21 or a 23. These are real pitches whereas the Bravo 1's are typically marked 1" larger than actual. The Rev 4 will help keep the bow up and stop the porposing.

b_fuss 08-03-2020 11:13 PM

Thanks Gary Awesome help. In place of the 90 degree adapter, Could I just use the exhaust riser with the bung built it? Or do I still need an 90?

GLENAMY 242SS 08-04-2020 07:21 AM

If you don't want to replace sensors all of the time use the 90* adaptors. I should be at my boat today or tomorrow and I will take a few pics for you. When I bought my headers from CMI I had them weld them in for me.
