Did Formula stop making performance boats?

On the Formula website the Fastech and/or the high performance are no longer listed among models available.

Yes they did stop. Several years ago.

t500hps 08-12-2020 12:43 PM

I recently saw a 2019 382 listed for sale....might be the last one they ever made.

I suspect if you pay enough that they would dig out the molds and make another one.

Dubbedcoastie 08-12-2020 03:20 PM

I spoke with them last week and they said if someone wants a FD38 they will continue to make them with a required deposit down.

jeff32 08-12-2020 07:39 PM

FD38 ? what is that model ?

Dubbedcoastie 08-12-2020 08:18 PM

Fastech sorry

bford1 08-12-2020 09:27 PM

Yes I saw a 2019 and thought a 2018 for sale. I was surprised I didn't see them listed. I went from a 272 to a 357 performance boats. Then I went to a 400 ss. Loved the 400 but would like to get back into a high performance model.

LOL, the key is pay enough! Several years ago after NorTech switched most production to CCs, a friend asked me to call Terry Sobo up and ask if they still produced their 39 NT. TS laughed, said not really, but for the right price we can figure something out.

The last new 292 fastec I saw I think was over $250k with small blocks. Can’t imagine what they’d want to basically do one offs now.

Formula of Missouri has a used 2018 382 with 20 Hrs on it that they want $400K for, and they have 2 what they are calling 2020's new with no price. so yea, I'd be scared to ask for the price on a 1 off 292.

snowrunner 08-13-2020 08:13 PM

they built a 353 or 382 this year, they can still make them upon an order (molds are still available) - I was told by Formula

I'll go on their site and look but are they not making any I/O V's now??

seafordguy 08-15-2020 04:57 PM

Just looked - does Nortech not even make cats any more? A sad new reality

LOL. They have nearly a 1 year wait list on what people are ordering. Pretty sure they don't think that's a sad thing.

I don't blame them - they have followed the market and are going to make what sells. Just hate to see the world changing, even though I know one day I'll be one of those guys that are tired of pulling motors, breaking rockers, chasing better idle quality, wearing head phones because my dry pipes are a touch raspy......

Agree. I'm older now. Thought I'd never have OBs. But have to say, love the 4 hundos. And will never go back.

$250k, $400k, wtf? My house isn't worth that much. I'll probably just keep my Donzi forever since I tend to keep things anyway. I still have the '82 Mustang GT that I bought in '85. It is sad to see the changes with Nor-Tech, Formula, Fountain, Sunsation and others.

badmonkey 08-15-2020 09:55 PM

If I was aware of Formula stopping production of their Fastech line I would have held onto the monkey and it would be worth ???!? It’s a shame that Formula stopped producing the Fastech line. Guess basically “ in fact “ per the president wouldn’t stand behind their manufacturing defects. Probably why they stopped producing Fastechs. They are unable to stand behind their product and are just after $$$$

Truly a shame. Not *****ing but actually posted his response publicly with our issues ...writing was on the wall then. Should a bought a Cig...they actually stand behind their product.

Funny part is we purchased another Formula...37PC. Thank goodness Scott at “TAG” still works like they give a ****.

They stopped building Fastechs because they'd stopped selling them, it's that simple.

If you want to analyze it, price may have been a factor, I don't know. If you can dig up numbers on how many were built and sold in the last few years, don't stop there, look into it a bit further.......... Were they stock boats that had sat in showrooms for ages or were they pre-sold? And, did they sell at a decent profit or were they discounted like crazy just to move them on?

I thng rak hit it. The current fastech design came in 1997 (simply a stepped hull of the 1994 design). They have changed NOTHING! With so many other builders putting together really good boats too they were going to lose market share. Add the fact that so many people have fallen into the O/B craze the Fastech line had little chance without major change. Change that obviously they don't want to pursue.

we now have a 400ss..............and Scott is great!

Mentalpause 08-16-2020 08:59 AM

Just go to LOTO for a weekend and you will see what keeps Formula in business. Everywhere you look you'll see another SS series go by. That lake continues to be their bread and butter destination for new production.

Redneckcustoms13 08-17-2020 09:14 AM

A friend locally recently received his 430ss crossover. He ordered it over a year ago. They are certainly staying busy with the ss line.
I to hate to see the go fast line pushed aside. Maybe they will make a come back later on. But I see the outboards being the ticket for a while to come.

Wharf Rat 1 08-17-2020 12:30 PM

I just got back from a trip to Charlevoix. There were alot of Formula SS. Every other boat was an SS. There not hurting without the Fastech line.
