Does anyone own a 90+ Mph 292 fastech
Looking to see if anybody has a 90mph plus 292. Would love to know how it handles.
|
Mine with 350s tops out at 65/68ish. No idea how much power it would take to hit 90...
|
Ive always loved the 292. Strange fascination with a small block boat. Two built small blocks at roughly 550 HP would be a blast in that boat.

::Checks crypto balance:: :Throws phone against wall:: Not in the budget this year :'( The 292 was a reasonable size for me and had twins for the reliability / dockability aspect. I'm happy w/it. Or am now after replacing both engines and adding IMCO steering. |
I just bought a 292 f1 boat. Boat weights 4200. With the 500efi it runs 84 to 85. I just ordered the complete upgrade kit to make the motor a 650. also Going to blueprint the bottom
|
Were all the pleasure 292's twins?
Nautiwerks, one more post for you and post some pics of it. |
It says I have to have 10 post before I can upload pictures?
|
There's a member on this site that has a 292 that will do 100 mph+. He Supercharged his worked engines and changed out his drives. Cosmetically altered the appearance of the boat also. Nice looking piece......

cool boat is it kevlar ? or just a light layup
|
It’s just a light layup. Honestly it’s a cool boat. Everything works as it should now looking to do a full restoration custom paint, interior, and do the 650 upgrade with built drive. If it doesn’t go fast enough I have a fresh 565 blower motor.
|
Cool boat. What year is it? I have a Velocity VR1, F 1 boat. Raced in 2005 as Solarized.

The boat is a 2001, is your vr1 a sit down boat?

Always wondered why you only saw the 292 with twins when the single engine f 1 boats did so well? Padraig |
That’s a good question, I thinking because in pleasure form they are significantly heavier and they had the glass windshield Ect. Any pictures of your boat
|
Here is an link to the refurbishing by Velocity. It might give you some ideas. I didn't have it done. The factory brokered it about a year after it was finished. I did have Eddie Young rebuild the engine. I have owned it since 2013. Looks pretty much the same.

Good looking boat, There was a really nice VR one that I wanted to buy a couple months back but the stars didn’t align.
|
Thanks.
As you refurbish your 292, please post pics. Padrwig |
I will absolutely post pictures
|
buddy had a 312…said it didn’t run well above 80. Lots of chine walk.
can’t imagine a 292 running well at high speeds |

Got the boat picked up and back to FL😎 |
Completely going through the boat, a lot of little TLC needed
|
SWEET!

Dan Stardohls 292 Fastech does over 90 mph. He did a real nice job in the modifications of his boat..
|
Do you know what Dan’s handle is on here by chance?

I would love to hear and see what people have. I have a 2002 and I'm about to build 2 434s for it for the winter project and would love to know what to expect!

Here's the article I was talking about. Spelled Don's last name wrong which didn't help in the search. But then again it was written 3 years ago. At the time this was wrote he was getting 92 mph. After the prop change and tune, I think he said he just got 100 mph. He was hoping for more. Maybe he will chime in with the final figures.. Enjoy.

Don did post shots of his boat here I believe. I looked for them and couldn't find them. Maybe he left this site and the pictures went with him.
What I remembered, the engine compartment looked very nice. What even more piqued my curiosity and made me want to see a shot was in another thread someone claimed he had LS power. Article said 415", which is a common Gen1 small block combination. Obviously doable in an LS likewise. Great boat and article about it. Be great to see the power in it. |
LS power in boat is making a rise, the power and reliability there’s not a comparison to the standard bbc
|
Cool boat, Id build a 540 and Whipple it around 800 ponies should fit under the hatch

And it's subjective. |
I have a 565 blower motor ready to drop in.
|
Navionics boating app had me at 67.1 MPH with 1/2 tank and super dirty hull. Maybe if it was clean and a bit less fuel I could dance with 70 mph...
