The platform is a couple hundred pounds plus the water that pools in it.
While I do think they compliment the boat some, the risk to the transom is too much unless you’re willing to take it off every couple of years to make sure it’s sealed. |
Congrats

Appreciate the kind words everyone! One good thing about "winter" in NC is we get plenty of random warm days to do some work. Supposed to be about 60 this weekend so I'll be going through and pulling everything out and figuring out my to do list and what not.
I agree on the silent thunder looking great for sure, it won't be a this year project but something I'll be debating over this coming season. The to do list definitely seems like something that will keep me busy for years, kinda looking forward to it . I actually parked it near our patio so this weekend I'll be smoking some ribs and cleaning out the boat, lol. Sounds like a good Saturday to me. Goal is to run it on the trailer the first week or two of April. In the meantime I have some electrical gremlins to run down. Trim gauge doesn't appear to be working so going to trouble shoot it, hoping I can just swap out the solenoid on the drive. And trouble shoot the trim tab power unit. Just little stuff to tinker with mostly. Would have loved a sonic 26 prowler. It the cockpit configuration and budget just didn't work out. Loving digging into the formula history and quality and honestly thrilled that this is where I'm starting my journey into my own powerboat. Seems like it's build like a tank and will handle amazing. |

That is a sharp looking color scheme. Can’t say I have ever seen one with that “thunderbird” signature on it. Congratulations on the new boat. Great boat for your first boat.
Thanks! I had to do a double take myself, I thought it was a wrap. But looks like in 88 it was an option. Hadn't seen a solid color hull like that either, I think they switched again in 89 or 90. |

IMO, being a Formula non owner, I think the Silent Thunder makes the back of the boat.
Congrats on the new boat! |
I am sure we could debate the ST platform back and forth all day. Owning one, which is now in my basement rec room as a cool shelf, I do like the look, but recently removed mine to find the platform was rotted, exhaust seals were leaking and gel damage to the transom.....thankfully transom not rotted. I have completely refinished the transom and will have the aluminum platform done soon. When I get enough posts I will start a thread with pics of it through the process if any are interested. TomZ is absolutely correct, unless you remove every couple years and check/reseal, it’s just not worth it. It’s more of a liability to me.

Also looking forward to see interior pictures of ChalieWhiskeys new ride! |
73 outside today but working. Should be in the high 50's low 60's this weekend so I'll be playing around with it and will get some more pictures for sure. Still get nights in the 20's so not ready for the season yet, but I'll take the warm days to do some work for sure.
