Looking at a 1984 F-272 LS

I'm going to look at a 1984 F-272 LS later this week. I don't know anything about these older Formula boats and I'm hoping someone here can help me out.

It's my buddy's neighbors boat and isn't listed for sale yet but he is looking to get $6,000 for it. The story is that it just hasn't been used in the last 5-6 years and has been sitting in the driveway. He started it up for my buddy and he says it sounded good.

I'm wondering what things I should check when I go to see it? And if anyone here has a rough idea of what this boat is worth in this condition? Also if anyone could point me to good resources on info with this boat or share their experience if they have one. I'm almost afraid to ask but what gph can I expect?

It's a 1984 F-272 LS with twin Mercruiser 260s

Guessing 350's on alpha drives? Do you plan on towing it a lot? What's your tow vehicle? Those suckers can get heavy quick.

260s on alpha drives. I'm glad you asked about tow vehicle as I started wondering if my truck could handle this boat. I would keep it on the trailer and need to tow it about 45 minutes each way to the lake. I've got a 2015 Silverado 1500 with a 7,100 lbs tow capacity. Does that seem reasonable?

yes the 1500 should be ok if the trany is stout and has good shocks and brakes, but keep it under 65 mph towing and hopefully the trailer brakes work.
the 272 hull is amazing in rough water.
if its a salt water boat it probably has some issues. if is fresh water only, less issues. check the oil after running too see if its milky(water /cracked block) check the bellows and shift cables. check the compression, need to get rid of all the fuel and rebuild the carbs more than likely. Full tune up, water sep filters and water pumps, gear oil .........if everthing ok the boat should do about 50 mph,gps
