Paint Scheme
Hi guys ,I'm getting my boat ready for paint and want to change the colour from all black with the traditional grey stripe down the side to white on the bottom black on the sides and white on the deck. Does anybody on the board have software and ability to mock up a 1982 302ls picture so I might get an idea how it will look. I'm going fot the Cig playboy paint scheme. Thanks in advance for any help I might get. Rick G.

Hope this helps. Sorry to who ever posted the original pic. I don't know who it was and cannot give them credit.

FANTASTIC Thankyou very much . One of these days you guys have to teach me how to do that. I would love to hear your opinions on my proposed paint scheme. All opinions are welcome , also any ideas would be appreciated. I'm not in a position to do one of those high dollar integrated paint schemes. Some thing tastefull a couple of colours sort of retro. I love the classics. Thanks again. Rick G.

Looks good. Will be hard to keep clean and not faded.

I know Jon, but the whole boat is black Gel now and is a ***** to clean and it is very faded thats why I'm painting. Given the deck will be white it will 100% improvement over the current state of affairs.I've decide to go with a product called Endura to paint the boat. You can apply this product right on the gelcoat without primer if you want and it has better water resistance than Imron or awlgrip, At least thats what I'm told. This is important to me as my boat stays in the the water for days at a time at the marina by my cottage.

The hot color choice on the 2003 Sunsports and Supersports is black Flagship(solid color hull sides) Not listed anywhere but nevertheless available. Makes the most beatiful Formula ever! You could change the silver bird logo to gold for an added touch.

Thanks guys I can't tell you how much help you have been. From our family to all of yours we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Rick G.

Hi Rick,
I'd really love to see a photo of your boat. If you're not the original owner and it's from the midwest, I think I might know it. Anyway, here's a template I made for the 302 that you and the others might find useful. I saved it in greyscale to get under the size limitations here. To use it in color, you would simply need to convert it to RGB, and then you can bucket fill each region with different colors to get a feel for the results. If anyone would like a larger version, let me know and I'll email it directly. Good luck. |
Thanks MrMagloo. I'm not the original owner , I bought the boat in Buffalo NY ,Tonawanda to be exact. It is a 1982 all black gel except for the grey stripe along the side. I have tried to post pictures but with no luck . But I will keep trying. I've done some neat things that I would love to show you guys but as I said this picture poting thing really has me screwed up. I'm going to get my computer guy at the office to help me.I moved the shifters and throttles and made a pad to hold my trim and tab indicators and also some foot rests and a step up the deck on the port side. Thanks again and have a great holiday Rick G.

Rick,
If you email them to me directly, I'll edit them properly and post them for you, if you would like. My email is listed in my profile. Thx |

Hey Nort,
How about a custom paint job on a transom featuring your posting icon straddling each outdrive??? :) |

Hey Nort,
OK, confess! Wellcraft transplant from a previous life, perhaps? That was a dead giveaway! Circa '82-ish? As long as we're doing the exercise in retro, how's this, which happens to be my favorite scheme that Formula ever did on a 302 from the 96 catalog: |
Hey MrMagloo looks great. Next week when I get back to work I will email the pics to you . Hey Nort can you use your magic to mock up the black and white scheme like the first pic posted in this thread . Thanks guys and have a great new years. Rick G.

Rick,
I'll post the photos for you when I get them. On the mock up, if you want straight black, that's easy enough: |
IS THAT WINDOW TINT????
|
Just my .02 worth.
Don't paint it. Spend the extra to have it GEL COATED. Mine's painted and any time I bump a gnats ass it leaves a big scar on it, (the primer shows through). Looks like sh-- Wish it was gelcoated so I could just polish it out and make it look right |
Thanks MrMagloo. It looks great and it has confirmed my opinion and I will go ahead with this paint scheme. Opie272 gel is not an option as I understand that it is very difficult to do right. Also the product I am using is called Endura a two part paint that you apply right to the gel no primer. The main reason I'm painting the sides black is because the gel is black therefore if it gets scratched it shouldn't show through too badly and this paint is super strong I've used it before. Thanks again guys. Regards Rick G.

My 272's exterior is all original from 89. The white gelcoat on the deck needs wax a couple times a summer, but the black and teal Imeron paint looks brand new and it's exposed all summer long.

Rick,
I thought you said that the deck and bottom is now black? If so, like Bill is warning, any little scratch in the white Endura will show immediately. Although Endura is pretty tough, any finish will scratch. Are you absolutely sure the gel coat cannot be restored with a thorough wet sanding and buffing? For the cost to do a small section, it might be worth at least trying? |
JJones,
The shorter SR1 windscreen had smoked glass, not tinted film. |
