292 FASTech anchor locker
 

I just bought a new 292 FASTech this weekend and I'm trying to determine what size/brand/type anchor will fit in the anchor locker. My old anchor is too long to close the door. Any suggestions?

IN ORDER TO MAKE MY OLD ANCHOR FIT I CUT ABOUT 2 INCHES OFF EACH END OF THE CROSS BAR, IT WORKED OUT FINE; ANOTHER SUGGESTION, LINE THE INSIDE OF THE LOCKER WITH SOME TYPE OF FOAM TO CU SHIN THE FIBERGLASS WHEN YOUR BOUNCING I DIDN'T DO THIS UNTIL I REALIZED THE INSIDE OF THE LOCKER WAS GETTING BEAT TO CRAP

PS; WHAT DO YOU HAVE FOR PROPS AND WHAT ARE YOU GETTING FOR PERFORMANCE?

As far as speed, I am breaking in the 350 Mag MPI engines and have not tested wide open throttle yet (only have two hours). The boat came with Bravo One 28's. My goal is to dial in close to 70 MPH.

How fast is your 292?

I have a 2002, 292, and I don't even use the anchor locker. I put the anchor under the rear seat. I don't want to, but Formula's design to get on the deck is terrible. I have banged my toes, slipped, etc. I hate throwing the anchor in off the back, but I'm not a contorsionist! Got to be an easier way? Honestly, I think
Baja's got it when it comes to getting on the deck. My 292 has 6.2's, 28 pitch, and runs 72 GPS.

It is difficult to go "on deck" safely. The anchor locker seems small and appears to be the same size on the larger FASTechs. I just can't figure out what type/size of anchor the Formula designers were considering. Do any FASTech owners use their locker with an appropriately-sized, non-modified anchor?

Hey all, relatively new to this forum. We just picked up our 2002 292 FasTech this spring and love the boat. I was curious if any of you have come up with anything for your anchor locker.

I have tried a couple of things but not much has worked well. I have come up with an idea but haven't put it in the boat yet, it's to take a soft side cooler and some of the foam mat stuff and line the cooler with it. I'm hoping this will provide enough cushion for the 20lbs navy anchor.

Try the folding box anchor from an Arizona company in the back of Powerboat or Hotboat Mag. Folds flat, needs no chain, and works great. Also get the storage bag to solve the banging around problems. Fit in my 312's locker.

What size box anchor did you get? I see they sell two sizes. And yes the locker up front is the same size as my 353 but 150' of rope adds cushion too.

I've got a 353. I keep a Fortress FX-7, 200' of line and 5' of chain in the locker. The fx-7 is not the right size anchor for a 35' boat, but it works well as a lunch hook. I keep a dis-assembled Fortress FX-11 in the back of the boat just to have the right size aboard if I need it. I bought Fortress' storage bag for the 11 and it works well. It keeps the whole package as small as possible and comes with the tools necessary to assemble the anchor quickly. I also use a secure quick connection to connect the FX7 to the chain. That way if I need the bigger anchor I can swap them out quickly. BUSTINOUT gave some good advice too, be sure to pad that locker if you keep an anchor up there. I use three of the square throwable pfd's. They cost $5 a piece and have the non-absorbant foam - works great.

I have a 353 as well, but do not store an anchor in the locker after the 2003 Emerald Coast Poker Run. Long story short, I believe it was a sunsation, was going out the pass for a photo shoot, hit a monster swell and launched the boat. When the boat landed, the anchor ejected out of the locker. Luckily, the anchor went out to the side and did not enter the cock pit. It could have been a very bad situation. If you have seen the video, it is enough to make you cringe. It is a little inconvenient to store it in the cockpit, but I can't bring myself to put one back in the locker.
