What's with the TAB layout?

That is a good question. I won't talk to Vic till the ride, unless I what a new Formula.

Those are K-planes with Lathum bolt-on fins like the F-2 boats use. I assume they are to help in turning. Haven't run the boat enough yet to see if they help. This boat has a lot of trick stuff like Lathum throttle/shifters,color Gps,intercoms, kevlar layup, stuff they don't normally do.

PhantomChaos 03-30-2004 11:38 PM

Looks like Machine Marine shifters and throttles.........??

So what does putting the tabs at the "flat" angle do exactly?

Magicfloat 03-31-2004 10:21 AM

I should have looked closer. The controls are Livorsi Billet Racing Series. The tabs are not K-planes,they are Lathum. Don't know about the reason for horizontal mounting, but some of the F-2 382 are that way.

TGC-32 03-31-2004 05:55 PM

The tabs are mounted horizontally so that they are always parallel with the water. The boat will be much more predictable at speed this way and will also turn more predictably. It will also let the boat recover more quickly from any "chine walking" at speed.

You will need to use more tab throw to affect bow down attitude than you would have to with the conventional tab placement, due to the fact that less of the tab is in contact with the water.

I wouldn't recommend this placement for most pleasure boaters, but I wouldn't have it any other way on a race boat. Our F-2 boat handled much better after we relocated the tabs, and the bulk of the other Formula F-2 boats followed suit shortly thereafter, and all liked the results.
