i'm running stock 23 pitch mirage's.....maybe mid 60's at 5200 rpm, i haven't gps'd it yet. what do you guys think? A friend has a set of 25p mirage's i'm gonna try this weekend. with the 23's it planes out as quick as a bass boat!

handfulz28 09-17-2007 02:00 PM

Oh man...420s...
With my worn out 454MAGs (365hp) and 23p Mirages I've seen 63mph (GPS) @ 4900-5000RPM. And that was early on before I knew what I was doing and in windy conditions. You gotta post what you get (on GPS) with those 25s. I've been wondering how a Mirage Plus would work on our boats...

TylerBurich 09-17-2007 02:38 PM

z28 are you running bravo's or trs cuz my boat is one heavy biatch with the velvet drives. i'm gonna try a friend's 25' mirage's this weekend for sure...another friend has a set of 25p mirage plus's that have been labbed that i'm also itchin to try out. do you run a little bit of tabs when going for top end? i have also shaved some weight in the ass end with the addition of imco exhaust and modifying my silent thunder so it's not carrying around 40 gal of water all the time!:ernaehrung004:

TylerBurich 09-17-2007 02:40 PM

Oh btw, did i mention she just turned over 270 hrs! That's also an 04 model haul-rite tri-axle

handfulz28 09-17-2007 05:27 PM

Duh...I wasn't even paying attention to the TRS drives...too busy day-dreaming about the 420s :D So yeah, my '91 has Bravos.
No tab whatsoever in the smooth stuff when looking for top end. So far most of my boating has been in 3 different conditions: (1)glass smooth, (2) over 3ft chop requiring at least level tabs to keep the boat in the water and (3) nasty enough to not want to even get on plane. I've never been able to run in that theoretical 1-2ft chop that lets the boat free up and run really fast.

Nice Engines.

Killer TA nice looking engines, are those 454's or 502's? What kind of H.P. do you have? and what do think about what kind of speed you gone get out of the 357 now? Propwash.

Killer_TA 09-17-2007 10:48 PM

Thanks they are 454s and were org. 440 cyclones. Im not sure of the hp now. I spun a bearing in the starboard engine last year only got a few runs before it let go. The place the old owners had the engine built hacked it together. I just got it back on the water and have not pushed it to hard yet. So I dont know my top speed yet that will have to wait till next year.

gps numbers

i finally gps'd my boat on sunday. 68.3 mph at 5200 rpm with stock mirage 23's. according to julie at throttle up that's 10% slip, she says don't change but i want more top end!

ericaull 09-26-2007 12:26 PM

Personally, I think the lines of a SR1 are a bit nicer then on a Fas-Tech......nicer windshield and deck

My 272LS - bought the boat in March and love it. Twin SBC LT-1's and Imco Shorties. I love it!

RonS,

Really like the gauge upgrade, what are they?

RonS 09-26-2007 07:38 PM

Treads, their Livorsi Monster gauges with carbon fiber faces.

I did the panels in carbon fiber also.

hey twins,
No, i picked secret formula up at the beginning of boating season this year with only 250 hours...probably paid too much. I took it out three times and hydrolocked a motor due to ingestion through the stock manifolds....that's when i bought the imco's. They had to install a whole new block because i spun a main so bad in the process, so after a month or two i got it back and it stayed together for 1 hour and broke a lifter in half! Another couple weeks and i get her back and have put 15 hrs on the new motor so far in the last month. Love the boat, i want to ditch the silent thunder and put an extreme marine platform with new tips on some time. Next step is stereo and dash upgrade, i'll keep posting as i upgrade. This winter i'm gonna redo the sunpad, i'm thinking all white. I would like to see some other pics of SR-1's with rodone pads.

I too agree dont ditch the platform, do some mods such as CB's or a cpl of the other guys also have done a few thing to make it grumble more, but only when on plane, My opinion is to make the hatch original, a gentlemen locallly redid his all white and it just simply looks to plane, the colors really set it off to me, but its your boat and its a Formula so it will look good no matter what:ernaehrung004:if thats the 311 that I'm thining it is it was for sale for a long time

TylerBurich 09-27-2007 04:50 PM

that it is 242
i think it sat for two years with major engine trouble til i bought it. i bought it from a marina that warrantied all the problems i've had so far this year so i can't be too upset about the downtime. what do you mean when you say mods like cb's???? i did gut the baffles on the silent thunder but i think the whole open box still sounds a little muffled.

Have you listened to it from behind the boat while it's running? :D Do you still have the tips/flappers on? I trimmed out the baffles and haven't reinstalled the tips & flappers. While I could definitely tell a difference from inside the boat, I never thought it was that much louder. UNTIL I backed in somewhere. Definitely a difference. My boating buddies also tell me how "loud" it is...last Sunday I entered the lake where we hang out. All idle...they were at least half mile away, with boats in between, and they heard me, then spotted me, and called me before I could spot them. :cool-smiley-011:
I still need to find somebody I trust running my boat so I can listen to it run :D

And my design that i copyed from Ram

TylerBurich 09-28-2007 01:24 PM

A friend of mine heard me coming down the lake last sunday and told me my boat sounded like a tribe of apache's on a war path coming at him. i don't know about that but it is noticeably louder with the baffles removed and the flappers taken off. i agree with you z about finding someone you can trust to do a drive by to hear it rumble. does the thru thunder setup sound more like regular transom mounted tips????
