DfDuck I am also doing a fairing on my boat (side tracked right now :(. What did you make yours out of? I did mine out of Nica Core and glassed it down so that it will look like the boat came out of the mold that way.

To make my fairing I used the original frame with the glassed removed. I shortened it by five inches and then used plywood for the straight sides to give it some support. For the front I used some bendable plastic that I glued to the frame. Once I had the frame done I used expanding foam to fill in the low spots and then shaved it smooth. Then I fiberglassed the entire thing front and back. Now I have to sand and sand...... well you get the point to get the smooth finish. Then it will be ready for paint! :D I did this all off of the boat so if someone ever wanted to install a windsheild they could. But I know I never will. I hope that this helps you form a picture of the steps that I used. Don |
Now you're making me want to do that to Outlaw.

Hi Guys-
Well this weekend I stripped the entire interior out of the boat to get it ready for the last coats of fiberglass on the race fairing and begin prep for paint. I did find out that I will not be able to mount the fairing on after the boat is painted as I first thought. The reason for this is because if I do everything off of the boat the fairing will not mount up with correct gaps. So to get around this I fiberglassed the inside of the fairing to fill in the gaps and smooth it out. Then I mounted it using the stock holes and screws. Then I taped off the entire area around the fairing filled in the gaps with expanable marine grade foam. Then I fiberglassed over the front of the fairing to smooth it out. I will keep you posted on the progress. |
