Cabin Headliner: how attach?
The center section of the main cabin headliner in my 382 is sagging down a couple of inches. It's secured/attached only at ends (front and back). It seems to be thin plywood with foam and ultrasuede stretched over it.
I can't see how it might have been attached before it sagged. There are no fasteners or glue that I can see. Anyone have any ideas about how to fix it? Thanks, Pete |
Pete, talk to Nort (PhantomChaos) - I believe he had the same problem, or at least a very similar problem, with his 382.

ApachePete,
I used marine spray on upolstre glue its made for that problem. Where its loose or sagging on the edges pull it down an spray the top an bottom, push back in place, put a piece of thin wood against it an prop it up from the floor, I used my adjustable pole from my cockpit cover, push it up tight for a few hours then remove an go to the next loose spot. Mines never come loose atfterward an I've slamming these big waves here in lake erie. HOPE THIS HELPS YOU OUT. |
The headliner in my 89 272 was held up by velcro and the screws inside the centerline lights. The velcro was stapled to the deck core and a thin sheet of plywood in the headliner and then pressed together. This was obviously an older boat and I did have a little bit a sag on one panel due to a couple of staples that had pulled out of the velcro. I would think that you could attach some heavy duty velcro (epoxy, 5200?) to each side and as long as the velcro was secure to each side, it would probably hold.

The headliner is secured by two screws under each light. On mine, two screws broke, a couple pulled through the wood behind the lights and on some the wood peice broke. The wood that holds the fixtures is both glued and stapled to the backside of the headliner board. I re-glued with 5200 and used 3-4 screws per light fixture. You better take it down and re-do it. |
Thanks everybody! I'll do it.
T'bird says the same thing. |
