Help with 2002 292 Value

2002 Formula 292 with 377 Scoprions, approx. 175 hrs, on an aluminum trailer. Northern FL boat with fresh and salt water use. Clean, full canvas.

Anybody have access to ABOS or BUC values?

Thanks!

www.bucvalu.com

They have a free consumer account that you can register for. I'm waiting for my password to be reset, otherwise I'd just look it up for you.

Thanks Bill272

Says $83,400 to $91,700 with 350 mags.

Any opinions out there? Has 377 scorpions - but kinda high hours and salt water use.

jaybird 04-11-2004 05:28 PM

At least for my area (Northeast) Buc seems to be a tad high with the $ ratings, but at least it is in the ballbark.

The best thing I could recommend is to look around online at all the other 292's to see what they are selling for. Then reduce that # by the typical 15-20%:) !

32storm 04-11-2004 07:30 PM

Scorp's were a heavy up-charge. I don't think you're going to find many for sale with that engine combo for price comparison. i wouls be curious as to how that boat runs with that power package. ...could be a nice ride.

Bill272 04-11-2004 08:02 PM

Boattraderonline shows 10 2002 292's, none with scorpians. They seem to average around 90-95K. the scorpian package now retails for 30K more than the 350 mags and 25K more than the 6.2's. Figure 20% premium for the engine package if you're selling and offer less if you're buying. When we were looking, salty boats scared us away, but we were looking for older boars. 2 years of part-time salt-water use wouldn't bother me too much.

GATORONE 04-12-2004 09:51 AM

Are you talking about the one at Lake Cumberland? If you are let me know.

GATORONE

2004 Spring/Summer ABOS shows the origonal MSRP at $145,710.00 for a 2002 292 with 350hp.
low wholesale is $88,883.00, high wholesale is $94,712.00, and retail is $113,654.00
But up here in the midwest you couldn't give away a boat that's been in salt water, granted it's only 2 years old. I'd say around here people would give $91-$92K boat only. Attatched are photos of a 97' 330 SunSport in our service dept. that had been in salt water it's whole live. Got a new 04' I'd sell you though.

Re: Help with 2002 292 Value

Boattest.com says a 292 with twin small blocks is 9.2 seconds to plane and 19.4 seconds to 30 mph. Can that be true? If so, not sure I'd be happy with the 292.

Pictures of the 330's engine are incredible - does the often referenced flushing process prevent this?

That's one nasty looking engine on the 330. i would be curious to see how water pump looks, and some other areas. Doesn't look like it got flushed the greatest.

Re: Help with 2002 292 Value

Having a fresh water flush on your engines would definitely prevent this severity of rust shown on that 330ss. You just have to remember to flush them every time the boat is run in salt or brackish water. Once rust starts, it's hard to stop. Even boats with closed water cooling still need fresh water flush kits if ran in salt water to flush out the manifolds and coolers. I didn't see the water pump on that 330ss, but I'm sure it wasn't pretty.

To reply to ontheh2o on a 292's time to plane, I could'nt say exactly how long it takes. 9 seconds sounds close though. It's a heavy 29' boat with twins, at 7,000lbs dry, it's heavier than most boats of the same size. 292's with 350MAG's take a bit longer that those with 6.2's or 377's. 377's come with 31 pitch and the other engine options come with 28's. There's a fine line to ride while plaining, giving enough throttle, but not so much that the props cavitate. You just have to practice at it for a bit. But, once the nose starts to drop, it's hammer down and she's gone! I've never drove one with T/260 so I don't know about 0-30mph with boattest.coms test boat. I think they take off like a rocket once they plane out. All I can say is come down here and I'll take you for a ride if your interested in one.

Re: Help with 2002 292 Value

When I was looking at 292's last year, the Scorps were a $32k upgrade.

Flyin FasTech 05-18-2004 12:44 PM

Re: Help with 2002 292 Value

Yep, sure is. Base price with 350Mag's in 2003 was $120,630
add $5,830 more for the 6.2's
add $31,590 more for the 377's

Thus the reason why we have never ordered any 292's with 377's. It's a lot of money for 5mph over the 6.2's.

Re: Help with 2002 292 Value

Magicfloat had one a year or two ago with the 377's and he was prop testing it and was able to just hit 80. He said it was definately a fun boat to drive with those motors...also said it sounded meaner with the scorp's.

That article on the 330 is amazing. Would like to know how often it was flushed. I guess one never knows unless you get a good survey to tell you different.

Complicated but excellent question. Answer depends on what you want out of your new boat. I love the 292, but it's only slightly larger than the 271. 312 is much bigger if that is what you want. 350 mags are great in both boats, best deal if you are price conscious.292/350s-70 /71mph.6.2s-75/76.377 scorpions if you are willing to spend the money,80/81, an awesome pkg.For price, room and performance the 312/350 mag is neat,65+mphgreat midrange punch, but you don't see many because most think it's too big for small blocks but they are wrong. If you go to big blocks it gets pricey, might as well think 353. If you go 292 have your dealer prop it down one pitch in props or order it that way.An ocasional bump on the rev limiter is more than offset by better overall performance
