Making "Formula" letters in metal?
Some time ago, there was a thread about replacing the chrome-plated "Formula" letters and Thunderbird with some ones cutout of aluminum. Did anyone ever get around to creating the cutting path to make these with a laser or water-jet cutter?
It would be neat to have these polished and then powder-coated. Otherwise, I might just strip the chrome off of mine and paint them a color to go with the rest of the boat.... |
Probably a lot cheaper just to strip and paint with a good paint. I think that's what I'm gonna end up doing.

It's about 85 bucks for 2 new sets of Formula letters, at least for the older style ones. Makes a big difference if yours are salt pitted.
You could pull off your old ones, and bring them to a machine shop that does CNC work. I had a local guy make me replacement vents for the odd trapezoidal plastic ones that go where the windshield ends. Made from polished aluminum. He is a friend, so I didn't really have to pay, so I don't know what another shop would get. Probably shouldn't be too much though. |
I'll bet that reallyl looks sharp.....
