Hi, i am looking for a used Bimini top for a 242 SS.
Also looking for front, side and rear camping covers. Does anyone know if they are still available new from Formula? Thanks in advance. |
Re: Bimini top.
Hello , If One From A 89 357 Will Work , And If Blue Is An Ok Color For You ,i Have One That Is In Perfect Shape I Am Looking To Sell . The Material Is In Great Shape And The Plastic Windows Are Still Very Clear . I Don't Think It Was Ever Used , And I Have No Intention Of Every Using It Either !

Re: Bimini top.
Hi Chris,
I dont know if it will fit, perhaps other members maybe able to shed some light on this? Blue is not gonna work, it really needs to be red, white or black. I should have stated this in my previous mail. However, if the frame fits i can use the panels as templates to get new ones made. How difficult is it gonna be to ship to the UK? Thanks for the reply. Jon. |

Re: Bimini top.
I bought a used Formula stock bimini for my 311 from a guy with a 272. It fits perfectly. I called Formula and they ratified that all tops (except for the back drops) were the same size for 272s, 292s, and 311s. Don't know about 357s though. I'm quite sure a top for a 357 is NOT going to fit a 242. But, maybe. Just ask Formula, they'll tell you.

Re: Bimini top.
Cuda is gonna have a fit with all this talk!!!!
I feckin hate my bimini top, it turns an elegant boat into a nasty looking barge. But in the UK, it rains ALL THE TIME, so you either get an ugly boat with a cabin, or a good looking boat and just hide the bimini as much as possible and don't put it up if anyone can see you. I've got a 1989 292 sr1, and I'm in the south of the UK, you're more then welcome to measure up against mine if you like. Cheers M |
Re: Bimini top.
Cuda's mission in life is to eliminate every bimini from the planet Earth.
He REALLY does not like them. He once told me and I quote exactly "I'd rather see my sister in a whorehouse than my brother with a bimini". At an OPBA club meeting last Thursday in April I believe. The man does have a way with words. Shy he ain't......Rock on Cuda.................. |
Re: Bimini top.
Seems fair to me.

Re: Bimini top.
I really like my bimini top, but it's gotten way better now that I have Troutly's old camper canvas kit fitted to it..... :p

Re: Bimini top.
Cheers MadMat i might take you up on that.
My boats up on Windermere at the moment having a new Bravo 1 installed. I will have it down on the South Coast Mid July all going well. Ill get in touch then if thats ok. Right, let me clarify the situation. I bloody hate the look of Bimini's too, they ruin the classy lines of the boat. However, in England it rains for 364 days of the year and so to extend the boating season we need to use the camping covers. Further more our boats are used in offshore waters and we go away for the weekend and stay on board. I call that real boating, but id trade it for the american climate and fuel prices anyday. :) $7.00 /Gallon on the water.!!!!! |
Re: Bimini top.
At least you've only got the 1 engine.
|
Re: Bimini top.
Hey, Chris! I might be interested in your setup for my 292SR1. I'm not a big fan of bimini's on these boats either but it keeps the wife happy! Email me @ [email protected] with some more info. Blue is perfect.
Jon, I have a perfect back portion of the 242SS canvas. It's like new. The previous owner "lost" the bimini etc. I just happened to find this canvas. It's been inside the house for years! It's like a light grey color. Let me know if it'll help. |
Re: Bimini top.
Hi Formula 1,
Yes i would be interested in the rear panel for a 242 that you have. What do you want for it and where in the World are you? Hey Madmat, Id love to have twins, but i just couldnt justify the expense of fueling the additional engine. (Not yet anyway) :) |
Re: Bimini top.
Ok, we are in the USA near Washington DC. I'll put my hands on the panel and get back to you with a price and all.
Thanks Steve |
Re: Bimini top.
"Rain 364 days a year"?
$ 7.00 a gallon for gas? I'd hang myself, just because of the rain. |
Re: Bimini top.
$7.00 for a gallon of gas
I think my Formula would be history :( |
Re: Bimini top.
I have to carefully watch how far I run, it's easy to blow a lot of money if I get carried away. But some things you gotta do. I'd rather run the formula twice a month than a binliner every day.

Re: Bimini top.
I third that opinion.
However, being as that I am still trailer bound it really doesn't matter. |
Re: Bimini top.
I Fourth that opinion, if thats possible.
Its not unusual for me to do £300.00 of fuel in a weekend. Thats about $600. But what fun is boating in a tupperware box? My last Boat was a 2002 Four Winns 268 Vista. Nice boat, good value for its size but a complete compromise! It did absolutely nothing well! My Formula at least does what the makers claim and any other requirements can be met ashore. Caravans are for Trailer Parks. Besides, the formula looks cool on its mooring so it still gives pleasure when money is tight and i cant go for a blast. Motoring legislation is getting so tight in the UK now along with an ever increasing number of road users that i have lost all interest in my cars and motorcycles. I dont spend much money in these areas anymore as i cant seem to get the satisfaction anymore. I have now decided to concentrate on boating in a big way before that too is seen to be an antisocial and politicaly incorrect thing to do and legislated to death. You guys would'nt believe the rules we have here in the UK. Well thats that off my chest, now where my latest copy of Hot Boat? |
Re: Bimini top.
R-Don, there's a bunch of us from the UK at www.boatmad.co.uk, with the odd cruise and poker run etc going on, mostly focused on the solent area. Take a look and say hi.
|
Re: Bimini top.
R-Don, I found the cover. It still is in perfect shape, been neatly folded in the house for the last ??? years! I don't know what it's worth, but I know how much it would cost to make!! I was hanging on to it thinking someday I may go back to a 242, but that is too difficult after having a 292!! So, if you would like it, email me an offer @ [email protected] and your address so I can figure out how to get it to you if everything works out! :)
