Why Don't The Speed #'s Add Up?

I'm in the market for a boat and have been reading some of your posts. It don't make sense for a 29 single 7-800hp to only run mid 70's. Yet I see people post small block twins with the same Hp runnin 90's. That's backwards to me. A strong single should always outrun a twin with the same power in my world. Maybe it's the altitude.

On the other hand the 292 F-1 boat with 500 will easily outrun the 292/Scorpion package (with roughly 2/3 the horsepower). The amount of drag from an additional lower unit and gearcase in the water will far outweight the benefits of more prop area. Besides, props should be sized to handle the power being applied to them.

I agree with Fasterdamitt - all other factors being equal, a single should always outrun a twin.

Same boat with single and twins...the twins need more horse power to overcome the additional weight and also the aditional drag of the extra outdrive.
