Tell them to stop using that boat NOW! I had experienced similiar symptoms as described on a previous boat (non-Formula), and it turned out the tank was leaking. Not a good situation. He'll just have to start at the carbs and work backwards. Then check all the vent and fuel fill lines, as well as the sender gasket. If no leaks are found (as was in my case) then it's time to pull the tank. My tank was leaking on the bottom, which could not be found until pulling it out.
Gas evaporates pretty quickly, so where he said that he may have spilled some that could be it, but the smell should not keep coming back though. I wish him the best of luck. Don't mess around with fuel leaks - find it, fix it right immediately. |
