Anybody know this boat? May be taking a road trip to Hilton NY to take a look with a buddy this weekend. 400 hr , fresh water 242 with bolsters and 502. Just got off the phone and this guy claims it is like NEW with absolutely no disappointments .
Sounds good but you know how that goes when you're on the phone. What sounds like a good price? |

Re: 1991 242
Well Chuck , after an hour long three way call last night , this boat is also nicely equipped and is supposed to be absolutely pristine . Spotless bilge and engine , new tires on the trailer , 2 new batteries , new cockpit cover all this year. Second owner and always garaged. Original cockpit carpet with the Thunderbird logo that can't be told from new.
I paid a little more for my 272 than I probably should have , but all the others I looked at for almost a year weren't worth their cheaper prices , not to mention gas , tolls , motel rooms involved in the search. The guy is also open to negotiations. Already come down a few grand on the phone...after all it is October. This weekend will tell  BTW , what does yours run with a 454? This guy claims 68/70 with the 502. PS Yours is good looking. |
Re: 1991 242
My boat runs about 55mph with a 454, full fuel, three people and a 22 pitch bravo prop. I swapped the bravo for the 21 mirage to demo the boat the other day and really prefer the bravo prop. Faster cruising speed, quicker to get on a plane and handles better.
Hey if this guy is willing to work on the price a bit this could be a great deal, I just think 28K is too much considering other options. But there's also something to be said for a well kept older boat. There are some people that take extraordinary care of cars and boats. Those are the guys to buy from. I'm also sold on buying a boat from up North. Heck I'm going to Canada to find my next boat. Those boat must spend most of there time under cover or in garages. Finally I have no doubt that it would run 68/72 mph with a 502. |
Re: 1991 242
I agree with the $28K figure being a bit high , but I was emphatic about a 6 or 7 hour ride each way and would we be disappointed...he never hesitated...absolutely not. He claims to have bought it two years ago from a Coronor in his late 50's who was just as anal as he is about this boat. He also stated (if you can believe it) when he looked at the boat it was SOOOOOOOO nice he didn't even sea trial it , just run it on the hose .
Pictures are on the way as we speak :) He also has a 4 month old son and only used it 4 times this season and Mama is after him to sell. |

Cash talks loudly. Throw a wad on the table and see if he bites. Do it in front of his wife if you can. She could be the ace up your sleeve.

Re: 1991 242
He did say he has had other lookers but the were young guys who didn't have the money handy , they had to get financing and that was the last he saw of them. My buddy is taking money with us.

Re: 1991 242

But one other thought. When I was looking for a 242, bank would only finance the book value of the boat...book is probably quite a bit less than the asking price...so unless the buyer has the cash to cover the gap financing would be tough. Not sure if banks use NADA or BUC or both. So did you friend tow this boat home? |
Re: 1991 242
Chuck,
Books did range from 17K to 23k.....asking price was 28.5 I beleive, We got back @ 2 am this morning with the boat in tow ( never made it there last weekend). Pics to follow...gatta get some breakfast right now :D PS It's a keeper ;) |

Pardon the duct tape on the cover. We used the old cover to trailer home. Came with a brand new cover and a 502 Mag :D

Re: 1991 242
An absolutely pristine one sold here last year for 25k with 300 hours and a freshly rebuilt 502 bowtie block to Hp500+ specs. Nice boats.

Re: 1991 242
Weekend doesn't look real good :( but he has to work anyway). He's hoping for one day next week. We sea trialed in on a VERY wind Lake Ontario yesterday which was somewhat limited due to the conditions.
