Formula 312 likes or dislikes
Would like to hear from any 312 owners or anyone that knows this model, this would be my first formula boat, I have looked at a lot of 312s on line and noticed that some come with ext. steering,k-planes,502s etc, which I think I want,But any input would be much appreciated, so if anyone knows of one for sell please contact me . Thanks

Re: Formula 312 likes or dislikes
If you can get one with all the goodies you should. The benifiets are not only in the enjoyment of using the boat and the safty but also in resale. Great boat you will love it.

Formula "Boat show" boat....Is SWEET !! |
Re: Formula 312 likes or dislikes
My friend had one with the power foot rests, and they rattled....bad. Other than that it was a great boat.

Re: Formula 312 likes or dislikes
Had a 98 312 loaded w/ 502mags. Ran 74ish. Make sure you at least get the 454mags. Had a buddy who had those engines and it ran real close to my 502's. Good luck, Wrink

Re: Formula 312 likes or dislikes
I have an '01 312 with 6.2's. This is my first twin performance boat. I got it specifically because it was a learning boat and I planned to upgrade later as I learned more about how I use and drive a performance boat. Thing is, I'm so impressed with the build quality, the ride, and the gorgeous lines of the boat I don't want to give her up. She runs about 65 on GPS. I got a great deal on her (probably because most people think its underpowered). The wife thinks the boat is fast enough. I would like to run about mid 70's. My thought process was to get into a performance boat relatively cheaply, learn and plan for the next boat. I like this boat so much that I'm thinking of just Whippling the small blocks, which should put her over 80. Whipple seems to be the most cost effective performance add on. If you are considering aboat with all the goodies (HO engines, latham steering, K-planes) look at going to a 353. It maybe a handfull at first, but you will grow into it and you should be happy for the foreseeable future.

Re: Formula 312 likes or dislikes
The 312 is a very sweet ride!! It handles the rough stuff (like Lake of the Ozarks) extremely well. My '97 only has 150 hours on it, all the options including the shorepower, McLeod floor, bimini, fridge, pumpout head, etc (two new covers-full & cockpit). Head never used. Two new covers-full & cockpit. Boat practically new. Has 454 Mags (new) W/Prochargers installed by Arizona Speed by original owner. Trailer -new rebuild with electric over hydraulic 12" disc brakes & new tires. For Sale- too many boats & now retired so I need to sell it.

Re: Formula 312 likes or dislikes
Praetorian - I have seen your boat and it's nice.
Up, The 312 is a great mid-sized boat. It really depends on what your going to do while boating and your needs. Todd up in Ozarks has one he is listing that is sweet. He owned a boat deatiling service to give you an idea of the care the boat has received. No matter what size you end up with, it's a Formula!!! Nelems Marine always has a good selection of new and preowned fresh water Formulas at great deals also. |
Re: Formula 312 likes or dislikes
Hey up the creek,I owned a new 312 in 99 and loved everything about the boat, but troulty is right ,a weekend in any boat on the lake of the ozarks is not for every one ,if 65 mph is fast enough consider a base sport package,re: 454 mpi 310 hp or the 6.2 and you will love it .If you like 70 or more go with the mag package.I ordered my boat with 454s then transplanted a pair of 500 efi mercs with vortech superchargers, the boat loved it until you would pass the 80s then you had to drive it.If you dont run the rough stuff a 312 is great !Value ,easy to trailer, easy to drive, and load ect and the used ones have held there value. If price isnt a cosideration a 353 is the best for performance driving and handling and isnt much slower than the 312 with the same power.A decent 312 can be bought in the high $60s and the 353 are starting to show up in the low $100s.Good luck!!!
