Silent Thunder Gasket ?

Does anyone know if the Gasket for the Silent thunder really needs to be obtained from Formula ? My Shop pulled the box today and they seem to think its just some weather strip material kinda generic .... I haven't seen it yet but will go buy the shop to take a look .....thanks guys ...

Contact OSO member Magicfloat. He is a Formula dealer and can order the seals kit for the platform. Last I knew the price was around 25.00.

You've got 2 types of gasket there - one around the exhaust tips, and one that goes around the perimeter of the platform. I just replaced both from Formula. The one around the tips is sort of doughnut like. The one around the perimeter has 3 vanes or so on it. I don't see why you need to use their gasket, though it wasn't too expensive - I think I paid less than 50 bucks for everything. Just use high quality stuff and some sort of strong contact cement. If you get a bad seal using 10 cent weatherstrip you have the pleasure of removing the platform again and doing it over.

Re: Silent Thunder Gasket ?

I agree with Jaybird. The outer seal is just a basic strip of fairly dense foam rubber with a vaned top surface and pre-stuck adhesive. Other types of seal material will work for that seal. However, the exhaust tip seal are round and of a certain thickness and width. They should be obtained from Formula as they are the real important ones.

As Jaybird said, just do it right with the right stuff. It's not all that expensive from Formula.

I have a new set of the round "doughnut" available from Formula that I never used. Cheap. Let me know if you can use them.
