Value of 1999 382
I've been surprised to learn that the trade-in/wholesale value of my pristine 382 w/HP500EFI's is less than $100K.
I've gotten this from 2 different dealers on 2 different brands of boats (Whaler and Pursuit), both of whom will give me more than 20% off list on a new, 2005 boat, but less than 100 for my Formula. I see this boat advertised for anywhere from $145 to $170, so I figured it might be worth $125 as a trade. Nope. What do you guys think? Hey, Robert! |
Re: Value of 1999 382
I'd try to sell it privately before I took a bath from the dealers. Boats, trucks, it doesn't matter, the dealers want to do nothing but screw us.
I would not accept 100K as a trade in amount. |
Re: Value of 1999 382
125K ? not at 20% + off on new. not right now. :(
They've got to be able to price the Formula to move in a depressed market going into winter, and make a profit on the deal. Not to mention protecting themselves in terms of taking a trade on the 382. They don't want to sit on the 382, that's for sure. Now is a time to buy clean not trade. can you sell it outright for 125K ? Advertised prices mean the least right now of anytime. What are boats such as yours actually changing hands for in the clean deal market? |

2 years ago a friend bought a '97 382 w/HP500's in MINT condition for $95k. 2 years ago was a better market than today also.

Doesn't sound quite right, as I was offered 100,000 on a trade for a new 353, for my 2003 292. Didn't make the deal as of yet.

But how much of a discount in the 353? |
Re: Value of 1999 382
exactly, it's really all about trade difference to compare deal to deal when trading. The numbers on your trade can be dressed a half a dozen ways for various purposes. I only do business one way on cars, trucks, boats, and that is a no trade representation of the numbers. I've always been fortunate to do business with those who will give you the straight poop the first time...no bull**** runaround. I buy at cost or a little over, give me a wholesale kind of # for my trade, dress the numbers however necessary for the lender. Saves alot of time and backfiguring.

Apache,
Part of the issue with low trade-in values you're receiving is where you're trying to trade. Whaler??? Pursuit???? Are you sure these "fish bote" guys even want your go-faster? That's certainly not the kind of dealer where you're going to get top dollar for your boat. I think you need to sell outright. |
