Silent Thunder Removal

I have a 2003 292 fastech and want to remove the silent thunder box. I know it's held in by four bolts but do I have to change the pipes once the box comes off? I am not planning on putting the box back on Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated

Re: Silent Thunder Removal

I just removed the box off my 89' 311. Was a bit(h. At some point someone else had the box off and put in extra mounting bolts that we couldn't see. Ended up having to use "Mr. Saz-All" on those last two bolts. The sealing gaskets hold it on pretty well as well. Ended up being about a four hour project.

My original tips were only about one inch long and just looked totally stupid. I'm going with a set of new Stainless Marine tips with the internal flapper that I got from TOO OLD, Trick Marine here on OSO. They are georgous.

And the box was a lot heavier than I thought it would be.

I had a 2002 29 2 with 377 scorpions. First thing off was the water box, still in storage . sounds and runs better

I would imagine you will want to change the tips out ...Like Outlaw sez ... stock are real short and really not made to be seen ...not finished at all ... contact "Too Old " at Trick Marine for some new tips ...

Mattituck 1 - You don't need to change out the tips just get the salisbury rubber flappers and put them on the tips. With the rubber flappers on they cover what looks unfinished and the boat look stock. I removed the box on my 336 and just put the flappers on and was all set. Decided later to add mufflers so I repalced my stock tips with transom mount HPI muffler tips.

I don't think you need to really on the newer hulls, much different on the pre-93 boxes.
