The 357 guy is lying or is an idiot. Says "...twin Magnum 454's. 420 HP each connected by transmissions to Bravo1 outdrives " . You don't have trannies with Bravo, one or the other. I assume it has TRS, maybe with a nice Bravo sticker on it. Not that TRS is a problem, but if the seller has either misrepresented what he has or doesn't even know what drive is on the boat, I would begin to question what else may be up with the boat or him.

Both sellers have zero feedback as well, not a good sign for a big ticket item. Proceed with caution, if at all.

The 357 guy also claims it's 38'. It's actually 37'7" with the swim platform. I didn't see a mention of hours. I don't like the radar bar. I like my 357 a lot more than this one and I paid a lot less for mine than his starting bid. My guess is he will get 0 bids on it. He's asking way too much for ebay. He probably knows TRS will scare people off.

The 402 seems like a little bit better deal. But, did you read that it has been stored for 13 years without use including the last 5. If not running this puppy is going to need some major work to get it back on the water. If not running then the pics must also be old (they look like old pics). Check out how the engine hatch is supported and the full miror underneath. Is that factory? It sure looks cool. The old 402s are monsters. It's a condo on the water. It will run flat and be slow. But, if you want a big cabin in a performance boat this may be the biggest in the 40' range.

Both are cool boats. Plan on a lot of work for either one.

My $.02

Hey bford1,

The guy with the 357 is a little out-there in terms of representation.
I don't like the radar bar either...The 402 is sweet. I am pretty sure that the full mirror and hatch supports are stock. I remember seeing your 357 on ebay, and here in VT. You have one awesome bird. The B&M blowers must be great for your top speed.

I love 272s, 311s, 357s, and 402's. You really can see "The Formula Difference" In the older Birds. The graphics, the clean lines, solid feel and personal satisfaction in owning the very best. You gotta love it.

Yeah I love the old birds. I really like that 402 also. If speed didn't really matter to someone and they were willing to put the work into it that 402 would make a really sweet boat. Many performance boaters say they don't spend any time in the cabin so it doesn't matter. If the cabin didn't matter to me I'd buy a smaller boat. Personally, I spend a lot of time in the cabin. I've installed a couple of fans and will install a couple more. When that sun is beating down on you it's nice to get out of it for a while. Plus we occasionally sleep on the boat. That's where that 402 would really shine. I love the way the berth is seperated from the rest of the cabin on the 402. My biggest concern with that 402 would be if it hadn't ran for 13 years.

Re: Awsome 357 and 402 sr-1 on eBay.....

I think that 402 is awesome. Speed is not a critical factor in my boating needs, if I see low 60's 63-65 mph out of a 402 I'd be happy. I spend a lot of time in my cabin too ( nice retreat from the sun). The cabins in the 402's, 357's and 311's are extremely well thought-out and make sense. I do think that the 402 would run a little
rough after not being used in 13 years. But on the upside, not having been used in 13 years would be like buying a brand new bird with the classic look.

I am extremely happy with my 88' 311, minus the fact that the engines are tired. I plan to rebuild and put some performance goodies in and bring the HP up to about 500 per side.

Hang on to your bird, someday it will be a collector's item.

I've tried clicking on the sites three times and I always get an "imput error" message.

I dont like the radar arches either, but otherwise they are pretty nice from what I could tell in the pictures.

that radar arch does not do a thing for it.

Don't like the radar arches either. Their big "wind anchors" as far as I'm concerned.

My first Formula, a 242 LS, came with a factory radar arch, I made the dealer remove it before I would take posession of the boat. On a 24' boat it looked totally "richard".

Russ,

My 311 came with an arch too, and a custom made "Bimini" (Don't tell cuda :drink: ) that attaches to it. It's really nice to have when that sun is beating down.

Cuda has "bimini spies" everywhere. If there is a bimini about, he will know about it.
I believe the group is called "Cooder's Rangers", and their motto is "the only good bimini, is a removed bimini". Or something like that.

You would not have believed how completely ridiculous that arch looked on a 242. It was embarassing. The boat actually picked up 3 mph when I took it off just because of the wind resistance. (gps).

Going to be working on Outlaw today. Gonna grind the striping off back to the side of the hull and remove from the transom. Will post a pix when I'm done.

Russ,

That arch was holding you back 3 MPH??? Makes you wonder why they put an arch on at all. I like mine for one purpose, a rear mount for the bimini. :drink:

I plan to run PVC pipe from the thru-hulls right out those rectangle exhausts of the silent thunder box....
Should sound a lot better. The Silent Thunder does not make as much noise as I'd like.

Post some pictures when your done, I'd really like to see it.
