Haven't sold one yet but it is a sweet ride. Just sold a 400 with 500's, not quite 60 but close, maybe 58. Would be better with 525's. Tom at Total Marine (TGC-32) might chime in here, think he has done one or two.

Re: Paging Magicfloat

The 525's were not offered with tthe Bravo-III last year, because there was no XR version of until now. Mercury would only allow the engine to be coupled with the XR Bravo-I. We sold two of them last year, and performance was in the 58-60 MPH top end, but the cruise was only so-so with only the single propellers.

I just sold one this week-end with the 525's and Bravo-III XR's. My guess is top end will stay the same but that cruise will be improved in the 3800 RPM range to the low 40 MPH range. With the single propeller drives, you had to run it a couple of hundred RPM higher to get that kind of cruise.

Bottom line is that performance will only be marginally better than with the old HP 500's, BUT you get closed water cooling on the 525's so it really is worth it. These are great engines and a great package on the 400 SS!

Hope this helps.

Tom
