Looking for a 382 cover
Does anyone know where I can get a 382 storage cover? (Other than a new one from Formula)
|
Re: Looking for a 382 cover
$200.00 sounds great! When can I pick it up? I got a lead on a new one from Formula for about $1,200.00. Looking to get a deal on one that someone may be sitting on. I'll only use it for inside storage, so I don't want to saok a bunck of money into it. Just need it to keep the dust off!
|
Re: Looking for a 382 cover
Thought you were just trying to be nice to me!
|
Re: Looking for a 382 cover
I heard they are pretty heavy too. I wouldn't mind looking at having a nylon cover made. It would be a lot lighter and should be easier to put on and take off. I won't be using it for outside coverage, only to keep the dust off. If I find a used one at a reasonable price I'll snag it, otherwise I'll get one made. Thanks for the offer though!

Re: Looking for a 382 cover
I've got a blue sunbrella mooring/storage cover for my 353.
I'm convinced it weighs less than my cockpit cover! I absolutely hate that vinyl backed cockpit cover. Heavy cumbersome beast. Not to mention it needs the vents 'cause it won't breath like sunbrella. Won't be long I'll have one made in sunbrella for ease of handling/deployment. I've gotten away from putting the cockpit cover on at night in the boathouse when I'm staying aboard. I just cover all the seating/sunpad/dash with huge towels and shake 'em off in the morning. I'm considering not using it at all in the boathouse, just putting the full cover on when I'm not there. It has 2 support pole snaps in it just like the cockpit cover and fits like a glove. Then when I go back in a couple days, the entire topsides will still be clean. |
Re: Looking for a 382 cover
Where did you get the mooring cover? Formula's cover is not only heavy but they want 1200 $$. I would only need the mooring cover for inside storage. Otherwise I use the Bimini. I thought the Bimini went on rather easily. I never cover it when I stay overnight on the boat, but do cover the dash area and controls.

Re: Looking for a 382 cover
don't know where it came from. No doubt custom made. One of my requests in closing my deal was a full cover. First it was a no go...don't have one. Then I got a call back the next day and was told there was one there from a 353 trade, would it do? I said yes, if it is in nice shape. I was assured it was.
It was like new, just under rubrail drawrope, tie down loops every 3-4 feet sewn into the hemline, 14" deep nose pocket, large reinforced velcro flaps at the cleats, the support pole snaps in the right places, a cloth reinforcement that sits on the w/s frame, ...a really well made HD piece. |
Re: Looking for a 382 cover
Is it made of thr Subrella material? Sounds like they did a nice job on it. You don't trail with it, do you?
|
Re: Looking for a 382 cover
There are different grades of Sunbrella, I believe. This is a sturdy material whatever grade it is. I don't trailer with it, though I feel I could because of the quality and fit. It's main purpose thus far has been to cover the boat in storage. I leave the cockpit cover off for winter storage, and just use the full cover. I have a nice dry 40' x 60' with a concrete floor. It never gets damp in there, but with the crazy temp swings we get here, I want the boat interior to breath. I still say after having had folded and moved the full cover a number of times, it wieghs little more than my vinyl backed cockpit cover. Did I mention that I don't like my cockpit cover? :D
I'm going to give the full cover a shot for boathouse duty and only carry the cockpit cover in the boat for unexpected rain or overnights out. |
Re: Looking for a 382 cover
If I don't find one I'll check that out. I never usually carry my cocpit cover with me when I overnight because it takes up so much room that I can't spare. Maybe I should for those rain days too. We get plenty of them as well as alot of morning dew. Never reallly thought it would hurt anything.
Hey, how do you really feel about your cockpit cover? :D |
Re: Looking for a 382 cover
Go to your Yellow Pages and look under "Canvas" or "Marine". You can probably get a custom one made for less than a Formula one. Call and ask them to come out and give you some quotes.
|
Re: Looking for a 382 cover
If I'm unsuccessful finding a factory one, I'll probably take it where I had my pontoon boat cover made and see if they have sunbrella or equal material. Thanks for the input.

Re: Looking for a 382 cover
how bout these guys ...
http://www.carriecovers.com/index_files/Page831.htm I hear these are REAL light.....comes with a small bag you can stuff it in for taking it with you ......I am with you guys though ..I hate putting on the Cockpit cover .. I keep my 311 in a boat house ...or actually a lift now because no roof yet .. .. but it should be done in a month or so ..... I have thought about a cover made into the lift ....make a frame same shape of the rub rail + about 4" or so ......cover the frame and then let fabric hang down the shape of the boat .....so...when I raise the boat it would go up into the Cocoon ... :D |
Re: Looking for a 382 cover
Thanks! I have a call into them. I'll see what they get for a full storage cover and a duplicate cockpit cover that I could take with me without eating up that valuable space! Have you had one made from them or know of anyone who has?
|
Re: Looking for a 382 cover
I thought someone on OSO has used the Carrie cover ....went thru my PM's but could not find a particular user ....If you only going to use it for inside there are a cpl of companies you can buy semi custom covers from ....I would think for inside storage you might want it kinda sloppy ...easier to install and would hang lower on the sides ...I have seen those in 3-500 range....I'll post em here if I run across em ....Mike ...

Re: Looking for a 382 cover
Thanks Mike. If someone could come up with some pictures that would be great. If I could get a light enough one that on occasion I could trail with I may consider that too. Keep the road grime off ya know what I mean!
Thanks again. Kevin |

Hope you have an enclosure for that bimini. The mayflies at Put-In-Bay will swarm your boat by the thousands in the early weeks of summer! I have a factory storage cover for my 382 that came in the deal but it has a big tear in it I will have to get repaired. It is very heavy and as Troutly said is difficult to put on by yourself, but is very nice for inside winter storage. I would not use it in the summer. I would also NOT trailer with it ... probably how mine was torn. Chris |
Re: Looking for a 382 cover
You're not kidding. The last couple of times we stayed there woke up the the morning dew (rain) and there were hundreds of dead ones that I spent wiping off! I don't have a bimini. (I'm afraid to consider one after what I've heard about Cuda) I definitely wouldn't consider an enclosure! I would have bought a SS if I was gonna do that! Robert has me hooked up with a new cover if I want one. They are heavy, and I would probably use the cockpit cover to trail with. See you on the lake next weekend!

I bet 'ole Cuda never had to battle the infamous Lake Erie mayflies! We ought to drag his 80 degree and sunlight over-exposed hyde up here for a weekend of boating northern style. Might even be enough to make him reconsider his position on biminis. :D I bet he'd love the watersnakes that slither up onto the swim platform for a little nap in the sun, too! (But then again ... I don't think he has a swim platform, either). I'd hate to have to tell him these little devils are "endangered species" protected by the ever-watchful eyes of the Ohio DNR boys! |

Re: Looking for a 382 cover
Yeah the '05 doesn't have one. Would probably go for one if it stored like the 353's. Still don't think you'll get one on Cuda's unless you were able to sneak one in while he's drooling at all the eye candy at Put In!
Did you get all the work done on your boat? |
Re: Looking for a 382 cover
I thought they were incorporating the bimini storage into the '05 382?!
Getting a lot done on mine. Engines are sitting at Sterling waiting for oil pans to arrive and get powdercoated. It will be rock and roll then. New engine harnesses and brackets are in and set up. New Merc thermostatic remote filter blocks are in and sitting by the front door ready to go to Sterling for dyno runs. Cleaning up and re-gel coating some of my bilge compartment to clean things up a bit. I think I'm going to put the new Livorsi billet race controls in ... they look BAD! I want to add a little balls and color to the helm. All that white just doesn't look so serious to me. Also going to pull the Kenwood head unit and put my old Sony in ... it doesn't have that #*!%^@~ theft lock thing on it. |
Re: Looking for a 382 cover
Sounds nice. Look forward to seeing it. Post some close up pics of the boat. You don't see a whole lot like yours.
As far as the bimini, if they changed the storage I'm not aware of it. I really like how the 353's store. If the 382 does, I would consider it. I would have to call it a 1/4 canopy, as opposed to a bimini to keep "you know who" from going balistic! :D |

Re: Looking for a 382 cover
Carrie Covers is sending me two samples of their cover material. One of the covers (Micro) will have a total weight of 7 pounds. This is a parachute like material. The other material (Diamond) will weigh about 22 pounds. No snaps.
Micro: $1,495.00 (Transparent color only) Diamond; $1,295.00 (Color choices available) Both come with storage bags. |
Re: Looking for a 382 cover
They are sized to custom fit or somewhat generic fit?
BTW...when are you gonna post some more pics of that new ride and/or your visit to the "Deep South"? :D |
Re: Looking for a 382 cover
Thought you'd be on your way to Alabama by now :D The covers are "custom" fit for each boat. I'm sure it's not a fit like the Formula covers, but it's much lighter weight and will work fine as a storage cover to keep ff the dust. I was hoping I could even use it for nights while docked to keep the heavy dew/bugs off the interior.
I have the 382 in the warehouse right now. I'll get some pics when the Floscan comes in. I'll get that installed and spend some time shining it up! :evilb: Did I mention that there's an '01 382 just south of here? It's hittin the water first chance I get! Still working on that spring break thing. My daughters have two different schedules and it's creating a little problem.

Re: Looking for a 382 cover
Can't be in the "right place at the right time" everytime I guess. :(
Though I believe I am on this real estate deal. ;) |
Re: Looking for a 382 cover
Good luck with the deal. Those are always great to land! (No pun intended)
|
Re: Looking for a 382 cover
Got my samples form carrie covers today .... Holy crap ...the best one is thin as wax paper ....matter fact you can see thru it !!! super super lite weight ....I dont think there is no way you could trailer it ...the other two are lite but not AS lite ...if I get one from them it will prob the the heaviest
|
Re: Looking for a 382 cover
I received mine last week/ Unbelievable. The lightest one would be under 7 pounds on a 38 footer. I may do the yellow sample (different color) to take with me where I could cover the boat when I stay over night to keep the bugs and dew off. I've asked if he could put a grommet or two for the bimini poles in case it rains. He feels the lightest one would be too thin for that.

Re: Looking for a 382 cover
do they have shock cord in the edges ?
|
Re: Looking for a 382 cover
No, it all ties in the back. Are you going to use yours for outside storage or what?
