311sr 1 engine vent replacement
Like a genius, I allowed a pontoon full of "young ladies" to tie-off my stern cleat last season. Angle of mooring whip and pressure from raft-up broke some of the fins out of my engine hatch vent on the port side. Anyone have a high-tech solution to this problem? Is there a billet vent that I can replace it with that will make my tub 10-15mph faster? :drink: :drink: :drink:

Weasel,
I think I might still have one of these laying around. I'll check my storage area and let you know. RD |
Re: 311sr 1 engine vent replacement
I think Trick Marine may have some billet replacements. E-mail a pic to Fred and see.

Re: 311sr 1 engine vent replacement

And not to Hijack your thread But Russ ....when you painted the Hatch covers ...did you paint over the Glass ??? |
Re: 311sr 1 engine vent replacement
A friend did those for me, so not sure what a regular shop would want.

Thread Hijacker!!!!!!!! Terra, terra, terra. Lets invade something . . .
Would love to see some pics of those custom vents, jaybird. |
Re: 311sr 1 engine vent replacement
Weasel,
Are you referring to the long rectangular vent (~3" X 12") on the side of the hull or the triangular vent near the tailend of the windhsheild? RD |
Re: 311sr 1 engine vent replacement
I replaced the long retangular ones with some that West Marine had--used chrome for a whiel and whne tht pitted I changed to white. They are plastic but tolerable.
The pie shaped one would be great if made out of billet--sweet--because ther are plastic tooand it won't take muck to break them. Are those the same size for 311's and SR357's ?? Maybe we can get a group buy if they are-- |

Re: 311sr 1 engine vent replacement
The vents that is broken on my boat is one of the long ones. However, if I could get the ALL in billet I will go nuts . . . anyone with a supplier, please advise!!!
|
Re: 311sr 1 engine vent replacement
Uh, that is the "vent" that is broken. Not the "vents". It is still early . . .

Not to interfere with your offer to Seaweasel, but, could I purchase a "surface mount" vent from you? I have a cracked vent on my 89' 272. Are the vents "BLACK"in color? Thanks.. |

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAh hijacker, hijacker!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

Re: 311sr 1 engine vent replacement
Did anybody "belly-up" to reproduce these vents in billet?
Mine are the original plastic and even though I painted them when I painted the boat they are starting to go south. |
Re: 311sr 1 engine vent replacement
SeaWeasel,
I have one of the vents in black plastic, but there is a small crack around one of the screw holes. I'll send it to you if you want it. Chris |
Re: 311sr 1 engine vent replacement
Chris--
I'll let you send it and I'll commit to take it to a friend that may be able to duplicate from Starboard or acrylic. He designs parts in AUtocad and then sends CNC program to a laser cutter to manufacture. |
Re: 311sr 1 engine vent replacement
Chris- The one I have is decent- I just don't like plastic. It has a piece out of it the size of a . . . mooring whip . . . they were pretty hot at least. Anyway, the vents ars 17 1/4 x 2 1/2. Fred's are 17 3/4. CP Performance's are 17 1/2. Who did you buy yours from?

I don't need it anymore since I traded my 311, but it would be nice for those of you with older Formulas to be able to get some use from it. |

I picked one up years ago. Former Formula dealer here in Toledo had one lying on a shelf collecting dust. I think I cracked my original on a piling at a gas dock and replaced it, so this is the original off my 311. RD |
