292 T/6.2 Has anyone tried other props??

Has anyone tried any other props on 292 with 6.2`s? If so what performs best? Also what other improvements have you done that helped performance?
Thanks,
Docbones

Re: 292 T/6.2 Has anyone tried other props??

I have the Labbed Merc Bravos now, I'm not getting more than about 4900-5000rpm most days. Throttle-up recommended dropping down two inches in pitch since Formula tends to over-prop it's boats. I'm holding off until I have the exhaust modifications finished. I yanked the silent thunder box over the winter and plan to install new performance manifolds...so I don't want to buy props twice. If I don't use Mercs, my other idea is to try a set of Hydromotive P5X's...I hear they're good on the Fastechs. Good luck and let me know what ends up working best.

Re: 292 T/6.2 Has anyone tried other props??

Ran 24s today, didnt bother with the 26s ,64 mph 5000rpm,1.50 gear ratio. Got on plane better then the 28 labs but lost speed. What's everybody else getting for speed in this boat with 6.2s??? Anybody try some Whipples?

I've got Scorpions but I know the 6.2's should run a consistent 70-72 stock. Haven't seen any with Whipples but sure would be interested in what it'd do!

I had a DCB Mach 22 a couple years ago that had a scorpion motor with a whipple on it, 87 mph 22 ft cat, not bad!!!

That's a good number on a 22' boat! What other modifications did you have with the Whipple? I'm interested but I have to wait until next year. Besides the top end how was the performance and reliability?

Re: 292 T/6.2 Has anyone tried other props??

I bought the boat used, from DCB no mods to the motor good idle 6-7 lbs of boost. These DCB 22ft cats are fast!!! They were designed for outboards but theyve built some sterndrive boats.Twin 300 Merc drag motors on this rig runs over 130, not for the faint of heart!!!!!

Holy smokes...a buck-thirty sitting what a couple feet off the water. That must be like driving a 100mph go-cart! I'd never get Mama out there other than the first ride.

When are you going to whipple the 292? It'll be a nice set-up I bet.

Re: 292 T/6.2 Has anyone tried other props??

I have a 292 with the 6.2's, it came with Merc labbed 30's, which I didn't like at all, sucked up gas like it was free.
I put on a stock set of 28's, much better cruise and mid range, which is what I wanted. The top end speed stayed the same, about 70 GPS, but I don't run as high rpm's at wot.
My fuel economy increased by about 30% by going to the 28's.
Works for me.

Live Wire, what gear ratio in your drives??? Do the 6.2s actually break in or turn more rpm after say 20-30 hrs?

Re: 292 T/6.2 Has anyone tried other props??

Live Wire, Do you still have the 30's? I'd be interested if you were of a mind to part with them.

The 353 w/ 575's and boxes would be a hot ticket. I could sell the wife on the size...I just need a few more fun tickets to pay the premium. Until then the 292 is pretty sweet and it's easy to trail around the mid-Atlantic.

Re: 292 T/6.2 Has anyone tried other props??

I think that my gearing is 1.65. I really don't remember mine getting loose after 20-30 hrs or so. Right now I have about 130hrs and I think they run pretty good. Of course I was still learning to operate the boat. At that time I was pretty much trying to over drive it, by that I mean that I was using too much tab, me trying to make the boat run the way I thought it should, not the way it would if I were to stop nutzing with it.
Much better if I let it find where it wants to run.
The biggest improvement was going to the stock 28p four blade B1's. My mid range cruise really improved, my milage jumped by about 30%.

That'd be great thanks. If I had the same mileage jump it would be even nicer!
