Re: Vents, Amps, Subs OH MY!!!

Just replaced some old Alpine pieces with Memphis as well. I already had a Sony Xplod 1502 running my subs. Kicker Comp 10" mounted on the board under the rear seat (Yes, they are free air). I didn't build any enclosure and they sound great. I didn't want to lose the storage space either. I'm sure an enclosure may help but I'm happy. Actually, still have room for one more 10" :D

Also have Memphis 6X9 under the rear seat and Memphis 6.5 on the sides up in front by the bolsters. The Memphis 3-ways have the swivel mids and highs so you can direct them upwards toward you. Just purchased a 200.2 Memphis amp to power the four cockpit speakers. I run (2) 6.5 in the cabin straight off the head unit (Sony Xplod MP3 & XM capable).

The Memphis equipment is some awesome stuff. Plan to upgrade the sub amp with a class D Memphis as soon as I add the third sub. Both amps are mounted in the port side closet above the fridge. I haven't run into a heating problem yet but I am going to ad a 12 volt fan and a return air grill soon to pass a little fresh air across the amps.

Croozin2- This sounds familiar. I am just hung up on the enclsure vs. no enclosure issue. Both JL and memphis are making marine subs this year- neither of them are available yet. The JL's are price-y $250 each -and the Memphis really aren't that great free-air (per their techs, vs. what they say on their web site). I spoke with Alumapro about their free airs and they are in the same price range. The Memphis are a much better buy- as are your Kickers. I really don't want to lose the storage in the back seat, either, so free-air may be the way to go. My previous amp was huge, so I had to mount it to the rear seat- and the new Memphis Marine Belle is too big for the fridge cabinet, too. So, what have I learned? I STILL DON'T KNOW WHAT I AM GOING TO DO!!!!!!!!

My Kickers are just standard automotive issue. They may eventually take a dump but they weren't that expensive to begin with so if I have to replace them, WTF. I understand about the Belle - that is one large amp. That is primarily why I went with 2 smaller. You've already got it though and there's no sense buying more. You'll figure it out. I'm sure it is a PITA with your boat being so far away. Mines only about 45 miles away and it gives me the red ass when I have to ride out there because I forgot something (like leaving the battery switch on :drink: ).

I just looked at the marine Memphis Belle amp and it's not that big? 21" long X 7 1/2" X 2 1/2" deep. I don't know the size of space you have to work with, but that doesn't seem too big.

Also I mis-spoke on the power output. 400 watts class D mono block and 55 x 4 4 channel. Hope this helps.
