Trouble fueling???????

Wondering if anyone has experienced problems with fueling on a 1999 35 Lightning. Starboard side is really slow, port side not quite as bad. Problem is when fueling, gas blows out vent and also fuel fill. Sometimes takes 1/2 hour or longer to fill both tanks. Have removed cockpit side panels all lines seem to be ok. Assume all single step 35's regardless of year have the same tank location, etc. Plan to contact Fountain about this, but am looking for some owner input also. Talk to me!!

My friends drive Formulas - they will get here eventually!!!!!

Re: Trouble fueling???????

my 1993 35 was the same. Had to fill on lowest speed. Then would have to watch so when full it didn't blow out vents.

Nothing much to do except ck fuel gauges while filling and have rags ready on deck.

Also, at 1/4 tank on gauges ===EMPTY...found that out the hard way.

fuel fill problem

Have a 93 35 ft lightning with same fuel problems, have to make sure i have towels with me for when i get the blow out problem when the tanks are full. If you are in a quiet area you can hear the fuel running up the fill hose.

Yeah, those tanks drop like rocks after 1/2 dont they...you only run out of gas once then you know better.

I chit canned the old filler necks and took the street elbow out. The angle is just wrong and the venting seems poor. It's allot of work but worth moving the fills to forward of the winshield and using a flush deck mount filler like the ones from GRP. Fixed all my problems.

cured the problem

Wow, this is an old one. I did find the fix, I sold the '99 and bought an '06 Lightning. Problem cured :D.

has Fountain fixed the accuracy of there fuel gauges? 2004-5 or newer. I have owned 5 fountains. 27-47. All have had the same problem. When gauge or gauges hit 1/2 look for gas stat because they will drop like rocks from there. It's a small price to pay for having the worlds fastest, safest, best handling boat.

Its not the gauge, it is the design of the tank. They are in the shape of a v, to match the bottom of the boat. Im not sure there is a gauge in the world that will measure the tank level correct. Our new 38 has Smartcraft. When you set it at 0 gallons and run the boat what ever the gallons used show, it takes to fill it up. Pretty damn close. Within one gallon. Ran The Richmond Poker run last summer. Showed we used 99 gallons of gas. Went to fill it up and it took 99.8 gallons. Like already said when the gauge starts moving off full keep an eye on it. At a half of tank, know where the marinas are that sell gas. At a quarter of a tank, get the paddle ready:cool-smiley-011::cool-smiley-011:
