35' Lightning 525SC Numbers
Does anyone have speed numbers for a 35', 05' twin stepped Lightning with supercharged 525 EFIs? Just curious.
|
Re: 35' Lightning 525SC Numbers
reg 525's run 92-93. 575's are close to 100.
|
Re: 35' Lightning 525SC Numbers
Let me tell ya something . 90 plus in a 35 fountain is a handful.I have one and when gps get to 92 hang on because it feels like god is about to make a decision.

Re: 35' Lightning 525SC Numbers
Nice sayin there Reggieraft. Yeah my buddys 02 35 575s will do about 100 with the right props, he tells me its pretty stable.
|
Re: 35' Lightning 525SC Numbers
It aint stable. I agree w/ Reggieraft
|
Re: 35' Lightning 525SC Numbers
Our 03 with 575 s was stable at 92. There was just a little chop and zero wind that day. Its a blast

Re: 35' Lightning 525SC Numbers
Mine is a 01 model. Could be my bottom is less than perfect. Switched to sportmaster lowers and should be ready for this weekend. Hoping for better results.

Re: 35' Lightning 525SC Numbers
Hey Fountainfamily you bought your boat from Rod at Honkercut right. We bought our boat from him as well. So where were you this weekened I know you werent at the Poker run.
|
Re: 35' Lightning 525SC Numbers
Yes we did buy it there. I have a rock climbing jeep and was tied up with that. Its tough to try to do it all in the summer. We are taking it out for Memorial day. What boat did you buy?
|
Re: 35' Lightning 525SC Numbers
we ordered a 29 with the 575. Got it late last August, Ive been on your boat plenty of times. And we might be at the delta Memorial Day weekened as well, maybe we can meet up.
|
Re: 35' Lightning 525SC Numbers
We are heading to Lake Don Pedro this weekend. Its a summer kick off with a bunch of family friends, but we will have to meet up sometime for sure.
|
Re: 35' Lightning 525SC Numbers
tnothin, What kind of speeds are you getting out of thr 29 with the 575?
|
Re: 35' Lightning 525SC Numbers
Right now Im seein about 81-82 on gps. Last weekend we were doin 80 with about 80 gallons of fuel, 4 people and a lot of beer in the cooler. But Im having the prop re labed this week, hopefully we will go a little faster.
|
Re: 35' Lightning 525SC Numbers
what size prop are you thinking, A friend of mine has one also .He runs about the same speed, But I think he is running the smaller blower pully.
|
Re: 35' Lightning 525SC Numbers
Im keeping the 30 B1. Its spinning to the right, I know my buddy has one and does 3 mph faster with a left, but it is easier to break the drive by spinning to the left. Our boat is still bone stock. In another 4 months when the warranty is up I will probably do the Chiller and the pulley.

tnothin --
carney mentioned my boat -- i freshened my 575 this past january and banged the rev limiter on the first run with full tank of fuel on flat water i installed a smaller pulley (old 525 SC pulley) -- making 7 psi boost on a 50 degree evening - so i ended up getting a lab'd 32 Bravo 1 which put me at 5300 rpm and 86.5 mph GPS -- just installed water injection to get the high boost temps under control -- seems to be working nicely but the weather has been 85+ and humid = 84mph -- waitng for another cool nite |

Do you have the chiller on there? What drive are you running, are you getting away with runnin the stock XR? I am only seein about 80-81 on gps right now thats not in the right conditions, thats with about 1/2-3/4 tank and 2-4 people. I just got my 30B1 labbed and it made a big difference in mid range and getting on plane but havent really tryed the top end yet. I can tell it is more efficent though.(80mph, 4 people 70 gallons fuel, 90deg. out) Are you spinning a LH or a RH? And what speeds were you seein why it was stock? Would appreciate any advice. Thanks, Chambersgc. |
Re: 35' Lightning 525SC Numbers
tnothin,
no chiller - went with water injection instead - had to do some milling and drilling, etc to install nozzles under throttle bodies. running a stock 1.5 XR drive and a 32 lab'd RH Bravo1 prop - nothing special extra power came from freshening motor and having to shave heads and deck block .010" each - produced a little more squeeze -- plus the smaller blower (top) pulley I have a thread on the Prop forum -- "TMI - 4 or 5 blade" My drive is definitely high but i am not sure if i want to lower it or not (using spacers) -- it slips more for sure getting on plane but it worked perfectly to get my rpm's down off the rev limiter - only thing i am waiting for now is cooler weather to compare my baseline 86.5 mph to the water injection set-up -- it looks like my oil temp has dropped 20 degrees under long pulls, so i assume it is doing its job |
Re: 35' Lightning 525SC Numbers
If you know how to drive the 35 its a safe as can be.
Dont pay attention and just as Reggieraft says, God will pay you a little visit! BUt man its a rush! The 35 canopy boat at a 119MPH is a handfull!!!!! |

So you did some actual grunt work to the motor. Is 86gps what you got when it was stock. I would really like to get mine that high. How does the boat handle at that speed? P.S. maaybe I can get more than 80 if I just start sayin No to people who always want a ride. Know what I mean? and only put like 30 gallons in it, and if it can be 60 degrees. |
Re: 35' Lightning 525SC Numbers

you mentioned supercharged 525 EFI's --- what exactly are the blowers and how much boost you talking here ?? tnothin -- stock was 80mph, on a good day -- you need 6-1/4 psi boost min. on fresh water to get 82 - 83 --- i was at 7 psi when i got 86.5 with about 80 gals fuel on flat water |
Re: 35' Lightning 525SC Numbers

So 80 right now stock is about right. I think I am gonna just do the pulley and the Chiller. And one more question for you: If I do these mods what prop do you think I should switch to and can I stay with my stock XR drive? Thanks again for your help man. |

you mentioned supercharged 525 EFI's --- what exactly are the blowers and how much boost you talking here ?? We are having whipple superchargers installed. I am not for sure on the amount of boost since our dealer is doing all of the work. |
Re: 35' Lightning 525SC Numbers
flash_e --
i am going to guess 100.1 mph at 5-1/2 psi boost with those whipples -- tnothin -- from what i did with my motor, if you change your top pulley to one that is about 3/8" smaller in dia. you should expect about 2 psi more boost and a speed of 83mph (my guess). --- XR drive, NO problem --- if you go over 8 psi, you definitely need the chiller and you need to re-map you fuel system, and can expect speeds near 90 (from what i was told by Joey Griffiin) |

Hey thanks man I appreciate it. |
Re: 35' Lightning 525SC Numbers
I must say . Maybe a little more seat time dose help. At NYC I was in the throtles all day all types of seas and finished with everyone still on board and the boat running perfect. Leaving for Atlantic City poker run friday. What a country! If your boat dosen't scare you write the check!!!!
