Advice Needed
Guys..I know this isn't really fountain related but I was just wondering what everyone pulling a 35' fountian Lightning is using. I am looking at a new Chevy 6.0 with 4.10 gears and I will put a lift on it but I am concerned about the tranny holding up. I will only be pulling the boat maybe 3 or 4 times a year a couple hundred miles each trip. I wan't for sure if there is anyone else out there using the same setup and how they like it. If this is not adequate I will go with the duraMAX and allison tranny. Any advice will be appreciated and thanks in advance.

Re: Advice Needed
You should be fine. May not set any speed records.
I pull my 32 with a 250 SD with the small 5.4 V-8 and 3.73 axles. No problem and could run 80 w/o a struggle. |
Re: Advice Needed
Since you are not using the truck that much you should be fine even with larger tires. Make sure you have a trans cooler. I am pulling with a 2500HD with the Duramax/Allison and love it. It's a great package.

I pulled my 35 with 97 Ram 2500 285/16 ..4.10 gears (bigger tires reduce to about 3.90's) and 360 motor.
You'll be fine as stated above, I never tow in Overdrive. Did rear end last summer, that was needed. |
Re: Advice Needed
and the idiot pulls his 42 now too. moron.
actually it is not too bad. You know it's back there and just putts along. |

Re: Advice Needed
I used to pull my 27 with a f 250 powerstroke with 37" tires. It was fine with that, the 35 loaded with fuel was to hard on the tranny. I installed a hypermax programmer and it shifted better, but the tranny would peg at times even with the cooler. The truck only had 10000 on it

Re: Advice Needed
I do not want to get into a gas/diesel thing but did you know that there is a 8.1 gas motor/ allison transmission option.
I was towing around 10k with it and worked very well. Cordell |

Re: Advice Needed
I have an 05 Duramax of course with the Allison. It has a 6 inch Fabtech lift 18 in. wheels with 35 in. tires. Ive done the Air intake, the full exhaust, and the Edge programer. It pulls my 29 fully loaded at 80plus mph at 1800 rpm. It is a flat out awsome machine gotta get one Im tellin you its the only way to go. It doesnt even know the boat is back there.
