What Type of Stereo Does Everyone have?

Just wondering how big of system everyone has in their Fountain and how has it held up in the rough water?

Re: What Type of Stereo Does Everyone have?

I have an Alpine head unit, 2 Fosgate amps (1500 running 6 in Infinity mids) & (2000 running my subs). The subs and amps are mounted under the hatch done very clean can't even see any wires. Need some good power to run them and have four optima batteries to carry the load. The system seems to hold up just fine to this point in time!!

I would imagine that most people have different stereos.

Re: What Type of Stereo Does Everyone have?

Take a look at the head units with mp3 playback capability. Burn a CD with your favorite tunes, and don't change the disk for many hours. A good mp3 player will have a 30-sec anti-skip buffer cache.

MB Quart/Rockford Fosgate has a nice unit with wired remote capabilities. These two features (wired remote + mp3) were the basis of my search.

Memphis Car Audio has killer amps, too. Check out the Memphis Belle.

I'm also a big fan of MB Quart Subs and main speakers.

Cheers,
Brian

Ran-Dom 32,
How much bass are you getting in the cockpit while running? Do you have any subs mounted in the cockpit?
thanks,
Dan

I currently have the stock Sony head unit, 400watt Fosgate amp & 4 6X9 Babbs speakers. It sounds good for being a simple system. It has held up with no problems for 5 seasons.

that is the only sub in my system, cabin acts like a big bass box, sounds great, no distortion - & bass does'nt drown out the highs.

Wind noise at speed is the bigest killer of a good sound system. There ain't much that's going to get to your ears with 80mph wind screaming by them.

I've got a six-person stereo comm system from Tiger that has inputs from the VHF and stereo. When you want to talk, it mutes other inputs. The speakers in my headsets and helmets aren't the greatest, but when you add in the "seat of your pants" feel from the subs resonating in the cockpit, it sounds reasonable at speed.

A little AC/DC in the milling circle... it's All Good.

Cheers,
Brian

Sony Xplod head unit, 2 amps, 2 6 x9's, 2 6.5inch component sets (w/tweets) and 2 12inch Subs. Sounds great, ridiculous bass (too much at times) and has held up perfectly.

One that takes me 10 min to figure out every time how to turn the damn thing on.

You have to do Satellite (XM or Sirius) It's the only way to go. Unlimited music all day, plus when you are anchored all your friends can put on the same channel in there boat and rock the bay.

Is the sub free air or do you have an enclosure? What brand and what are you powering it with? I have a new project for the boat. :D
Thanks,
Dan

Re: What Type of Stereo Does Everyone have?

I mounted a 12" Diamond Audio sub in the V-berth like the one shown here. I used Great Stuff "expandable foam" to seal up around the edges inside. With 500 watts it really pounds. If you are in the cabin, it is loading up really well.

I removed the stock fountain logo lights above the back seat and installed two MB Quart NKD 116 6.5" 2-way speakers. This really helped getting some high end speakers up high enough that they reall sound off well.

I also removed the two front fold down access doors beside the bolster seats and made custom panels that are a direct replacement holding 2 pair each side MB Quart 6x9's.

The rest of the system: Alpine CD, 2-MB Quart 6.5's 2-way, 4-MB Quart 6x9's 2-way, 4-Pioneer 8" 2-way, 1-12" Diamond Audio Sub. Powered up by Rockford fosgate Power 851, Precision Power 2200, and a Soundstream Reference 501.

Speaking of which... Do any of you have removable faceplates on your head units? I'm constantly finding mine on the floor after a hard run.

It snaps right back on, but one of these days it's gonna hit something and not survive. Painters tape seems to hold it on, but looks like chit.

Ideas?

Brian
