Scared to ask..........
but does anyone have a bimini top for their Fountains? Personally I would never use it but parked with the little lady wouldn't be a bad option at times. So the question would be where would I find one for my 29'......looking for what you guys use and where you got it, how you like it. Dare I ask if anyone has a pic. of it on their boat......lol......I know it looks hideous on offshore boats but what the hey.........Thanks in adavance! Do they make camper tops to fit ? I know now I'm getting carried away!!

Re: Scared to ask..........
You can get anything custom made from your local canvas shops.
Personally, they look not nice on a Fountain. |

Have you considered an Anchor Shade?

West Marine, Boater's World, etc. Priced in the high 100's, I have one for my '04 29 and have never used it! Good luck.

Re: Scared to ask..........
No, you can't ask. You can't have one and don't look for one.

Re: Scared to ask..........
And we'll vote on the rest of it when we get around to it.

Re: Scared to ask..........
Just kidding. I've had a lot to drink. We've got one and we need it!!

Here's my 47 w/Bimini. Only use it on long trips when it rains. Sometimes have just the top on if it's hot and sunny on long trips. Otherwise it stays put away! Nice thing about the 47...it all fits in the engine compartment so I have it when I need it. P.S. Boat is FOR SALE.

Re: Scared to ask..........
Not a fountain, but here's a pic of mine. Mine came factory, and is probably not original. However, I don't think you can buy a camper top at the store. I think your only option is to buy a bimini at BoatersWorld or BoatUS Store. then take the boat to a canvas shop and have the remaining curtains made up.

Re: Scared to ask..........
FYI, I priced a bimini with front and side curtains (clear plastic) that was an exact copy of the factory unit with heavy duty stainless hardware and sunbrella and it came to $1800.00. I think the factory wanted 5K+ and the boat had to be there. The only reason I didn't go for it was there was no place to store it in the engine compartment on the 29. The 35 and up is no problem but not the smaller Fevers. The only other option was to store it on the frame and that looks like ****e!

Re: Scared to ask..........
If you are only going to use it when parked, an Anchor Shade works well. We have one and use it all the time to keep our twin 3yr olds out of the sun. My friend bought one of the knock-off anchor shades and it has a bad case of the "droops" between the supports and doesn't look "good". He now wishes he would have just bought the Anchor Shade and been done with it, now he will have bought it twice!

Those enclosures in the pictures above are BIG boats with lots of room for storage.
Here's a simpler route... Brian |
Re: Scared to ask..........

Ah there's always room for other topics!! Not a problem.......good stuff anyway! FYI..........I called Fountain and they don't even make bimini's for the 29's with the old windshield! Unless the boat is there...then it would cost a fortune.........Anchor Shade seems like the only logical solution! |

OK heres mine........ custom made......the large bow sits on the sunpad while underway.......the small bow fits in the cabin .........there is a TON of room in it when its up.....can sit out a rainstorm no problem........goes up in about 10 min, comes down in less........it would look a little better if it wasnt so tall but I wanted to be able to stand and Im 6'3.......this is for long cruises.... 2...3...4 days long not for just getting out of the sun.........boat will now sleep 4 adults.......you can change your clothes in it at a slip, 5 ft from another boat and they cant see you.........all removes for a poker run.......next step is to remove the useless sink /dinette setup in the cabin and make the cabin one giant bed.....heres some pics......the first two (obviously) are with it up the last one is how it looks with it down.......everything for the top is stored in the boat in that pic...............doug

Re: Scared to ask..........
I have a small Bimini like Brians on my 8.8 . I can't and have never tried running with the top up but I know you can get a stainless steel frame that will hold up to a little more speed. I don't have any pics of it, sorry. I hade mine made for about $225.

Re: Scared to ask..........
Here's a pic of mine this weekend. I wanted to post this because it rained on Saturday morning, so we had this up. Plus, the ride Saturday evening and night was a little chilly, so we put the top up so there's not so much wind. I have run the boat at 60 MPH with the top up with no problem.
This did remind me of one important point I wanted to mention... we hardly ever use the back curtain. We only use the top and side curtains. Also, my cover is called a covertible (because it snaps to the windshield). A bimini is exposed in the front and requires an additional windshield attachment. |
