Stepped hulls
Interesting thread over in the Cigarette forum...
http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/s...d.php?t=117690 One of the guys who races said Fountains slide while Cigarettes roll, in his Cig. http://media.putfile.com/ejection Oh and...??? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWA%3AIT |
Re: Stepped hulls
Be careful of high speed turns with any stepped hull. :fish:

Re: Stepped hulls
"Cigarette was bred for, and their reputation was made, in Ocean Racing....that sport no longer exists".
So the ball is in a new court and the question is how would some of the other "racing offshores" stack up against a Cig in Ocean Racing? It would be going back in time to when Apache's had dominance due to shear size and displacement. Not the direction the industry is going..that is history. I think it's time for some R & D at Cig to move over to the new circuit. |
Re: Stepped hulls
You would have to resurrect D.A. before they's have a chance. :evilb:

Re: Stepped hulls
"I can assure you that Phil spun that boat...maybe not in a race but he spun it. I say that because every boat that I have bought that has been raced has been over, now some would say that it was due to inexperience but that would not explain why Tres, Bob, Todd, etc went over also. The Virgin boat was the worst. First, Tres got sideways a few times in testing, then Kevin King and Gil Leiber almost got killed in a GLSCS race, the Diamond Dave and Val spun, and then Bruce and I got tossed..... That boat will spank you the minute you stop paying close attention. My Super V went over with the Rodriguez team, then with Bob Bull so many times he joked about painting a canopy on the bottom!!! Brian Hollis took a few, Dick Simon took a nice swim with Stinson on the sticks, on and on and on....... I think quite a few Cigs have been over in testing and fear of hurting resale has kept lips shut tight. Now this is not to say that in the right hands these boats can be competitive, but the right hands are Todd and Tres or Bob...... the rest of us mere mortals better know how to swim after a 80mph hit or how to breathe on oxygen inverted until the cabin fills up enough to push the hatch open. Thats a fact.
Take a look and tell me what went wrong..... slow turn, no interruption in water (we were in 1st), no wacky control inputs.... It's a design flaw." http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/s...1&postcount=33  |

You know me...I research the crap out of things and can be a real pita until I get to the answer...and the answer for me is that a 2006 42' Fountain rules. Quality...design....stability at high speed...predictability...fair price... resale...I am sold.
The 42' Fountain rules. Lightning or the EX.... The man got this boat right! ...you can pay a lot more and get a lot less |

I think it's time for some R & D at Cig to move over to the new circuit. Atari is #1 in home gameing and the Tucker is the new wave in Automobiles. They make a well made, nice looking pleasure boat, but the bottoms need R&D. Skip Braver is more about the BRANDING of the Cigarette name than he is about moving into the future in bottom technology. All I hear around here from the Cig guys is "open ocean, rough water",but I would wager that most run on inland lakes. They are the first ones to tear up Fountain, but at least Reggies Company is always trying to improve their bottoms and not spending all his R&D on a better looking line of clothing. |
