42 Ex Order
I am thinking of ordering a new 42 X, but with no motors or drives. I'm thinking of asking Fountain to cut the transom for #6's, which I would install later along with my 750's. Would appreciate any thoughts anyone would have about this combination. Has anyone run a X with 6's??

Re: 42 Ex Order
Will Fountain sell a boat w/o power because of warranty issues conscerns? I was once told no.
|
Re: 42 Ex Order
I also heard that they don't do that anymore.
Talk to FountainDriver, he'd probably know. |
Re: 42 Ex Order
Just order it with 525's and 6's...Whipple those to 700+hp and your in the game.

Re: 42 Ex Order
Had a long talk with Reggie last year about the same idea. He said that they can't sell a boat without engines. PERIOD.
He said to order one with #6's and 525's and sell the power cause the engines still have the warranty. Or for cheaper $$$, order the 496's, but in my opinion, the 525's will bring more $$$ on the resale, or just keep them for when you decide to sell the boat, and pull the big power out. If you order one with 525's and you decide to off the eng's, I have a buyer for them. |

Re: 42 Ex Order
Thanks for the great input guys. Sounds like I may have to order the boat with 525's and 6's to get what I want, then sell the 525's w/ 10x's help.
Do you think I could sell the 6's for full value ($70k+) as well? I have a set of used 6's ready to go. Blume, I ran the 750's about 40 hours this year and destroyed the gears in a brand new Max Machine drive with shorties. I've learned that no matter how strong the case, shafts, bearing are... the gears really are the weak link. We run in the Pacific and do catch a lot of air. :D Any idea how fast the 42X will be with the 750's and 6's? Trying to stay with naturally aspirated (carb) engines for realiability. If we break 30 - 40 miles offshore, it can be a very bad day. |
Re: 42 Ex Order
Downtown... now that's what I'm talking about... that yellow boat is awesome!

Re: 42 Ex Order

Those 6 drives in the hands of an individual, taken off a boat, might fetch 20K each. So lets say you sell your engines and drives for $90K. After the parts sale you are going to wind up having around $220K invested in a new hull that has no power or drives. Sounds like a very expensive way to get a little more reliability. |

Re: 42 Ex Order
I'm thinking very different math.... a take out engine/drive 525 is about $150-$160k. Recently got a quote!
I would not pay more than cost for the 525's and 6's. Sell engines at cost $29 each, and drives at $70k, which I think is cost?? So, the net price of the boat should not be more than. $160 . I have my 750's and 6's already, just need my labor.... Maybe I'm just dreaming.... :drink: |
Re: 42 Ex Order
You would be better ordering the boat with 850's and selling Your stuff. The resale on the boat would be much better Then used motors and drives in a new boat. You will also have an issue with exaust on your motors. The 525 stuff won't work. The 850's should push that boat 110mph+

Re: 42 Ex Order
PM me I can build you a straight bottom 41 footer without power.

Re: 42 Ex Order
call Joey Griffin in Washington NC, tell him what you want to do and the power and drives that you have.

Is there a difference is cockpit area in a staggered 42 X?[/QUOTE]
The 42 executioner is basically there original 42 staggered deck boat made from 90-97 they called it a 42 lightning, and you could get it in staggered or side by side configuration, and triples. the side by side version has about 15"-18" more cockpit space, which doesnt seem like much but makes a world of difference. In 98 when they introduced the tall deck round windshield boats they started calling them the lightning and the original became know as the classic deck, although they didnt advertise the classic deck they still made them in 98 and 99 and maybe 2000. Somewere along the line they quit making the classic decks in the early 2000's i may be wrong about them quit make them on special order and then around 04 they brought back the classic deck in staggered configuration only and called it the executioner, which in my opinion was the smartest thing they have done, but only offer it in the staggered configuration and not side by side. hope that helps. Re: 42 Ex Order
x-Pair-a-dice Fountain was sold a year ago asking 299k. Rick took immaculate care of her. Had his 900's refreshend every yr at Fondulac Merc for 8k each, some factory program. That was a 117 boat. no poxy hull either.
The race fairing is way to go. I don't care much for the lightning fairings that wrap around like a cowl. As on yellow x- P.A.D. |
Re: 42 Ex Order
Pair-o-Dice yellow 42' fountain is a Lightning not the EX.
they traded it to MTI on the new cat, it was sold to Fountain of north Texas from MTI, they sold it to Jimmy in the North East. I don't know if it is for sale. Poker runs america have one for sale, I think |
Re: 42 Ex Order
i have been reading this thread and i would have to say that will al the effort of your our time etc the best option is to order with 850 and 6's and sell off your used drives and power like another said earlier, you will have a faster boat, turn key ready to go with new equipment, better re-sale too.
good luck with whatever you do it will still be an awesome boat either way. Jay |
Re: 42 Ex Order
I have to agree with powerboatsNW I have been running Imco extreem stuff hard for going on almost 4 seasons , first on my 35 and now on my new 42 ex. just had my first failure. I think the six drives are the way to go but if you need 100 mph you my fall just short. I wrote Bob Teague and he responded in powerboat to my questions in Febuarys powerboat page 23.Wish I could have done sixes but the money I saved may go to more power and Ihave had good luck with Imco stuff. Good luck !

Also, do you know what your prop slippage is? Back4more, do you think you may have too little slippage and adding lots of load on your drives? just a thought. I am at 17-18% slip now. Will be testing different wheels in spring but afraid with less slippage = more load to drives which means more drive failures??? |

Thanks for the compliments on the internet site. Ben works hard to keep it up to date and running smoothly. We'll be updating with more pics and videos from the OSS Worlds shortly.
