Re: Engine hatch mirrors
Did you get the stainless steel from Fountain? If not, where and at what price? Do you think that this is better than the traditional mirrors?

Re: Engine hatch mirrors
You can purchase mirror polished stainless steel from a glass company. I did it and it works great. No problems with cracking or expansion. Looks great too. They use it in commercial applications to simulate mirror.

I was talking to a buddy of a buddy at the St. Louis boat show a few weeks ago and he stated he used Mirror Plex on his Baja and it turned out great. He had the glass shop cut it to his templates and then he used automotive type of adhesive stickers (type used on the front emblems of your car) and just stuck it right up on his hatch. I think the total investment was around 150 bucks. I think I’m going to do the same thing. |
Re: Engine hatch mirrors
Mirrorplex sounds like it might be the way to go. Do you think that all glass shops can get this? As I understand, the glass needs to be pre-drilled by the glass shop?

Re: Engine hatch mirrors
Any plastic dealer will have it in stock.
Plexy, can drill it yourself. A drill bit with the sharp edge knocked down works best. Kinda like a dull bit. |
Re: Engine hatch mirrors
I had one of mine break- stuff is called mirrorplex and any glass shop can get it for you. I had them drill and cut mine to fit- I would "mirror" (haa haa hee hee) the other posts re: expansion. Mine has rubber grommets in it to allow it to move a little. I think I am going to go to rubber washers underneath SS or plastic finish washers when I re-install.

Re: Engine hatch mirrors
I do appreciate your input. I'll make sure to give the glass some cushion, to keep from flexing and/or breaking.
