What is the price difference between the Illmors and Merc 600sc?

There was a boat test between the Illmors and Merc 575sci. However Merc does not build the 575 anymore.

Last month one of the magazines ran a test between the 625's and the Merc 600's. In that particular boat they pretty much tied all over. As far as price goes I'm not sure how much the Merc 600's cost, but I am pretty sure you can get a better deal on the Ilmors than the 600's.

In the test I read the old Merc 575 were faster (by a few mph) but the big deal was the Merc 575 got much better gas milage. So with that in mind I would figure the Merc 600 would be much faster than the Illmor. Correct?

I don't know what test you are talking about - maybe that was between a 575 and the smaller Ilmor 550, not the new 625. Everything that I have heard says that the 575's are horrible on gas and that the Ilmors are good.

In the test just published the Ilmor and the Merc 600's ran neck and neck.

That what I saw also.They had the same speeds. But I did notice the Merc had a good bit better fuel consumption at a lower RPM. But again the Ilmor had a deffernt power band also.

I am curious to what test was done as to fuel economy. I can tell you for certain that the ilmor is far more fuel efficient than the Merc's. The 550 Ilmor is better than the 496'. The 625's are very near the same fuel economy of the 525's. I have checked these numbers on several occassions.
The best way to test is with nearly dentical boats on the same trip at the same rpm with the same mileage. Comparisons with at least 150 miles plus. This should give you a very good evaluation.

Steet, have you experienced any harnomics noise with the Ilmors like I have in my boat?
