Sea Water Strainers
Hey... someone should warn us... 525 freshwater cooled should always... always have seawater strainers!
The salt water passes through three heat exchangers that are just very small copper tubes. The least bit of seaweed or debris will clog them. Then it's a long hard job to get them cleaned out again. I learned the hard way! Now I need a recommendation on sea water strainers. While I'm putting them in, I would like to have a cool color... maybe blue to match the 525's? Who makes some good ones that are easy to sight when clogged and easy to clean out? Thanks for any recommendations... JON |
Re: Sea Water Strainers
I like the Perko strainers ... I use a 1 1/2" inlet which is way over kill, but never have to really clean them and they hold so much water that even when you come out of the water your pumps don't run dry. I think they are the easiest to cleanbut only come in bronze.

Re: Sea Water Strainers
I just bought a 29' with a 525, it comes next Monday but I'm pretty sure there are no strainers. How much did the Perko cost and where did you get yours? thx

Re: Sea Water Strainers
You don't need it.... Till you should of had it !!!!
Take a ride on a boat with a good viewable strainer and check out what's in there after the ride.. Once you have one, you will never have a boat without one... Good Luck !!! |
Re: Sea Water Strainers
Interesting thread. I'd go with red ILO blue.
