making more cabin storage

Anyone ever cut open the area under the cabin seats? I'm looking at what appears to be some 2 -3' of hidden storage potential there, but not sure if it has stringers running thru it.

There is a lot less room down there than you may think, especially on a 29. There is a thin stringer down the middle which can be notched. Maybe 8 inches deep on one side of it and 10 on the other side by an other 8 or so wide.

On the plus side, it runs all the way from the dash board to the front bulkhead. I kept the cockpit cover and spare parts down there. Was always dry.

I cut the top but you could go thru the kick panel as well.

Used a Roto Zip for most of the cutting.

How do you get the cushion off? Where are the screws?

Fountainclimber - have you tried this on your 38'? I'm considering it on mine. Also, how do you keep the seat bottom from sliding around after the modification?
