Lightning vs. Ex.
I have been looking at a new 42 Lightning and the Ex. After the Miami show I fell in love with the new Interior of the Lightning, but after I hit back on Earth and found out that the boat cost approx $75,000.00 more than the Ex.!!!! I have a deal all set on the Ex. but I love the Lightning. What would you do??? Is it worth the extra $$$ on resale I need to decide and just cant... And yes $$$ is not unlimited to me.....BZ

Re: Lightning vs. Ex.
Uhhh...won't you be sticking out of your slip, BZ? That's a big no-no at Hammond these days!
Lightning vs EX...for the kind of boating you usually do, do you REALLY need all that cabin? All you do is pass out in the berth anyway! Whattaya gonna do...watch TV below deck or sit on the dock and drink a BL? You know I'm right :D . And dammit...the new one better be as pretty as the current one! I'm in at the Aqua Fin, dude. Can't wait for June. |

windshield on the lightning. Same bottom on the 42 EX as the lightning. I do like the new interior..... but not for 75K. |
Re: Lightning vs. Ex.
P.S. as far as pretty the new boat will be ALL white.....BZ

You might be interested in pics of my 06 all-white 42 Ex. Just took delivery this week from Pier 57. I like the better cabin of the Lightning as well, but no way is it worth the difference in price.

Re: Lightning vs. Ex.
Yeah, thats the deal but i don't even want any color in the cockpit------love the classic look.....but $75,000.00. for the ightning?????

Re: Lightning vs. Ex.
i just took delivery of 35ex.looks the nuts

Re: Lightning vs. Ex.
BZ, did you talk to Bill, buyafountain.com.
I know he was selling his dealer demo all white w/ merc 600s for a deal! Worth the call! |
Re: Lightning vs. Ex.
I think the difference in price may not be 75k, more like 50-60k, but still too much. I also like the classic "old-school" look of the Ex. I got as little color on the boat as I could, but I think a little bit of blue sets it off.

Re: Lightning vs. Ex.
Damn that is sharp...the blue looks awesome. Bob, I was told this weekend that I should not ride in a 42 so soon after I bought my 35...but I may have to ignore that bit of advice :D . Will this deal be done before our little trip? If so, you'll be throwing our single-step 35 triumverate (you, me and Brad) all out-of-whack.
Oh yeah...who are you dealing with and what power? Don't overlook my girl Charlene...I'd never hesitate to send her customers. Raymond's is awesome. |

75,000.00 extra cash for gas & Beer. Go with the X. |
Re: Lightning vs. Ex.
I love the lines on the ex and would take that $75,000 to bump up the horsepower instead.
|
Re: Lightning vs. Ex.
Are they both full staggers? Is one faster than the other and what kind of speeds do you get with 525's?
Sweet boat either way. Congratulations on purchases!! |
Re: Lightning vs. Ex.
Looks GOOOD! Very clean. A buddy has a 42 that we ran in at last yrs LC poker run. I was shocked at how smooth it was runnning in the rough. A far cry from my 32!

Good luck I was looking at a 35 Lightning a week ago. I realy liked the walk around, but it has no non slip on it other than the couple feet at the cockpit. I can see alot of swimmers with that. |

BZ, check this out...
its buyafountain's boat. http://www.yachtworld.com/core/listi...=bartusmarine& |
Re: Lightning vs. Ex.
That's a great looking boat. I guess I"m just old school. I prefer the interior and the lines of the EX vs the new Lightnings.
|
Re: Lightning vs. Ex.
From what I gathered you can't get the Ex with anything more that Bravos.
|
Re: Lightning vs. Ex.
Silver Coast?????........Is it on the intercoastal ......to get to it you kind of mouse around and end up under a bridge???..... I visited that Marina back in sept when we were in Myrtle Beach......only Fountain I saw there was a 38 fish boat........If I hada' known I would have looked you up buya fountain.........doug

Re: Lightning vs. Ex.
I vote for X, Having had a couple of 42's I'm a little biased, but I think the dash is a little to large on the new cockpit, but I do like the sliding door. However, I don't think you will ever get back even half the difference ($75K) on resale. Congrats either way. :D
