where to put depth sender
I redid my dash this year, and bought a new depthsounder for it. The old one didn't work at any speed anymore, it was mounted on the transom.
The new one has a through-hull transducer. Where is the best place to mount it? |
Re: where to put depth sender
good luck if it is stepped.

Re: where to put depth sender
Mine is in the access hole under the cabin step area. 04 29'

Re: where to put depth sender
I spent the $ to put one in a couple of years ago, and it never has worked. I don't think that it is getting a reading at all. Wish I hadn't wasted the money.

Re: where to put depth sender
They wont work thru the hull unless you drill hole to mount flush to underneath hull. I'd pass on it as well. My 35 never worked.

Re: where to put depth sender
Ditto! It takes up valueable dash space

Re: where to put depth sender
my boat is a '91. no step.
is there coring in the bottom? the boat's at the fiberglass shop right now. it's either a matter of paying him to make it work through the hull, or ordering an external transducer and having him install it. i boat in shallow water all the time, and i'm getting kind of sick of using my GPS as a depthfinder |
Re: where to put depth sender
Mount it at least 10" off of the keel (center of vee), there is coring from the keel out 10". With no step, you should be ok mounting just about anywhere from the cabin step down back.

Re: where to put depth sender

Re: where to put depth sender
When mounted correctly, it should read up to 45mph, even on stepped models.

Re: where to put depth sender
in your pocket they never work on the boat.....

2005 42 Lightning
The OEM transducer for my Livorsi digital depth guage is under that step going down into the cabin... shooting through hull. It works awesome and gets a good reading at any speed... even in rough water. I'm sure Fountain took that into consideration and set up the hull carefully at that particular place. I got a new GPS with sonar and would like to mount another transducer for that. Does anyone know if I can just epoxy it to the other side next to the Livorsi sender? Thanks |
Re: where to put depth sender
Jnewton,
Please clarify, is the transducer before the step or after it ? thanks, ed |
Re: where to put depth sender
Well forward of the first step.

Re: where to put depth sender
Farther clarification...
Under the step that goes from the cockpit into the cabin. Forward of the first step in the twin step hull. Hope that clears things up. |
