number 6's and 1100hp questions
Iam thinking about trading up to a 42 with staggerd number 6's and 1100hp's. I have always owned stock mercury power with bravo's. I do all my own service and rebuild work. Could someone that has some experience with the #6 drives tell me how many hours I could expect to get out of them before replacing gears/bearings/seals etc. if the boat was driven with respect and not beat on? I know the number six drives are damn strong but Iam just curious of what I should do for maintainence. They are dry sump. How hard are they to work on in comparison to bravo's?
thanks |
Re: number 6's and 1100hp questions
I've been running dry 6's for about 5yrs. They are bullet proof. Change the oil and forget about them. You will also love how much better a boat handles with 6's verses bravos. :D

Re: number 6's and 1100hp questions
Biggist thing I have been told is re-shimming them about every 250 hours to insure your gear life.
I'm not done with the project yet, so just my .02 for now. Cougarman |
