32'Fevers...no more exhaust rattles at idle
For you 32' Fever guys.
I replaced the stock cast iron exhaust over the winter with Stainless Marine. The weight savings of 160# was enough to raise the back end up approx 2" so the exhaust is not trapped in the air pocket under the swim platform any more. The boat no longer shakes and rattles at idle with the exhaust in the open mode. This was with full fuel. Can only be better as I burn some off. :evilb: :evilb: No longer have to worry about the risor gasket leaking now. US1 is a happy camper. :p |

Holy chit, 2 inches with only 160 lbs. I'm taking about 550 lbs out of the back on my 38 by going to the Ilmors and raising the X diminsion and inch to make the engines fit. After hearing that I am really glad we decided to go with the extension boxes to get the drives deeper in the water.

How was the install ? ? ? . .. any advice, gotchas, etc., . . .
I am aware of just how roomy and luxurious the accommodations are in the 32'er engine compartment . . . . |

Re: 32'Fevers...no more exhaust rattles at idle
Approx 2" means no more than 2" :drink: . Still enough to break that water seal. The swap wasn't to bad. Had to do a little clearancing work on the front mounting plate where the oil line comes to allow the line to come up a 1/2" because the remote filter has to be raised that much to clear the manifolds. Not quite a bolt on swap, but well worth it.
Didn't run the boat faster than cruise for a short time, so no performance numbers. Gotta conserve that fuel. :p Doug, ran across these SM last summer for a good price. Gils where my 1st choice, but that didn't happen....until after I got these installed. |
Re: 32'Fevers...no more exhaust rattles at idle
I noticed the "rattle" for sure.
Didn't know what was causing it. One thing I did notice, was when sleeping on the boat at anchor, in calm water, the swim platform would form a suction on the surface of the water, and then with sort of a "farting" sound, break free. It does that ALL night long. Over and over and over and over and over . . . . ALL night long . . . over and over and over and over. It got old pretty quick. Maybe stainless is in my future. . . . I was thinking about it. It's more of a "reverse"-farting sound. |

farting.... :D :D :D
Yep, noticed that sound alot too. Just figured it was the wife. :evilb: |
Re: 32'Fevers...no more exhaust rattles at idle
US1 you made a excellent choice with the Stainless Marine exhaust over the Gil. I have seen dyno numbers done at Innovation a few years back against CMI and the Stainless was better is some places.
I had a '98 26 Scarab with a 502MPI and I put on Stainless Marine and got only a 1 or 2 mph increase but what I noticed more was better acceleration plus NO MORE REVERSION! Yeeeeeah! :drink: |
