How much power to go 90 mph??
 

I need some help from a few "Fountain " experts . I am building a set of motors for a 1996 twin step 42 with staggered setup.I believe it weighs in at around 8800 lbs ??
How much power is needed to go 90 mph .
Would a set of 572s' with 700 hp each get you there ??

Currently the boat has a set of 525s' and the owner says it runs low 70s. Does this sound right ?

650 hp a side in a 1996 38 ft lightning gets you 95 mph. So I would suspect 650 hp a side in a 42 would get you at ~90 mph.

Those were the "smaller step" days.

I've got a 95 42' with staggered hp500's and can get 75mph. I haven't checked the weight but I believe it is around 11k-12k lbs. This winter I will be swapping power to a pair of 700's which should get me into the 90's.

If your really at 8800 lbs, 525's should get you low 80's and with 1400 hp you should get 100mph.

Fountain advertises their 42' at 10,400 lbs dry, so I think 8800 lbs "ready to go" might be a little optimistic even if it is gutted. I need to get mine weighed now :)

525's will push a 2004 mid 80's . the x is real high.

2000 42 Twin 775 HP- 94MPH
1996 42 Twin 950 HP- 103 MPH

Two that I have experience with. Both Staggered Bravo Boats.

Beware of Bravo's at those HP levels. I have twin 750's with Bravo's ... not the best of luck. You may want to look at #V's during your build up. BTW 96 mph on a '99 38. :D
