42 Fountain bottoms ?

What years did they change the bottom on a 42 from 2000 to 2004?

They went from the twin small steps to the larger steps around 2000. I believe the Fever still had the small steps and the Lightning had the new larger ones. Then there was a small change around 2003-04 and then again in 05.

Blume what did they use to call the 42 EX then? They had 2 different decks at one point. The 42 EX deck had the smaller steps then they discontinued that deck and bottom a year or so after they brought out the current Lightning deck and that hull had bigger steps. This was around 1999-2000.

Blume, in 1999 they built both decks but the new deck had the new larger steps for the bottom. There were a few of these boats -1999 models- at the Fountain dealer when I bought my 2000 29 Fever in Oct of 1999. I'll have to go look through some old Fountain catalogs I have. Confusing huh? :D

The smaller steps were a much more stable bottom at higher speeds.
Not to confuse the issue, but they had 2 different large step bottoms in 99 and forward, but with different angles of attack. One was for small power bravo boat and the other was for large power #6 boats. But there were mistakes, I ended up with 900SC's and #6's on a boat with the more aggresive bravo bottom. Ran great, but could be unstable in very smooth water at high speeds. Then they also made a third large step bottom that was actually only notches, no step, also around 2001.I think this one was a very limited production and was used mostly for race boats. However Jeaston from the board here ended up with one of these.Sooooooooooooooooooo, that makes 3 possible bottoms.
