Sling Storage and Hook/Rocker Bottom

Just bought 42 Fountain and called Cust Svc for proper sling placement. They told me sling storage was not recommended due to development of hook or rocker bottom over time. How big a risk is this? Anybody have any experience with this? They told me people have to have the bottom blueprinted because of this.

Congrats on the new boat. The slings are a major league concern - they will not properly support that boat, and in some short order you will cause some serious damage. The steps on a fountain are 1.5 inches tall - each section of the boat from the transom forward must be supported. On a twin step hull you have 3 different levels or surfaces you are running on with a total of 3 inches of step from the front surface to the back . If you go to fountains website and pull up the PDF owners manual page 14 illustrates the proper support for the hull. I have a 35 ex and have a stepped rack spread 43 inches so it sits squarely on the chines. This is a really serious issue with these boats - you really need to get it on the right rack ASAP - this does not take long to set in.

Thanks. It's still on the trailer at this point. I've heard about those rack-type adapters for slings. Does anyone have suggestions to properly support the boat?

What's sling storage?

Keeping the boat on a sling - or - merely slinging it off a rack & into the water.

I sling mine in every weekend off the Myco & into the water & assumed it's burly enough to handle the 3 minute sling suspense.

I hope they are referring to long time sling cradling?

At Gulf Coast region Texas webbed slings are very popular down here. They only support the boat in two places just like the sling lift for launching does. People say that any time spent like that warps the bottom leading to hook or rocker. So I am looking for a custom cradle for my 42 Fountain and would love to find a used one!

pure power - you are fine to sling on an off a trailer - its to long term storage that will bend the boat - beak or non beak

Yep no storage on a sling or even a bunk that does not extend past the transom.
