The boat already has an extention built into the transom. Adding a box will not smooth out the ride but a longer hull will. Try droping the tabs in the rough but keep the drive trimmed out. That works good on the 29. That will keep you up on top of the water and running flat. It always seemed to me that when the water kicked up I always had to speed up and start concentrating hard on driving the boat to smooth things out. the slower I went the rougher the ride got.

box isnt going to help - you already have a notched transom that serves the same purpose as the box - time for a longer boat - look at the 35 ex. There are a lot of good deals between here and boattraderonline.com

Check NADA, ABOS, Kelly Blue Book and then get the comps from the clasifieds between here and Boatraderonline.com. Boat will sell between Feb and March if you price it right.

From my experience of owning a 27 Fever stepped hull and a 29 Fever stepped hull, both tend to have a more "harsh" ride than some other hulls in the same size range, but they are definetly faster. I guess you can't have both, in that size range. The 27 and 29 fountain hulls tend to be more "flat" aft of the step (the "pad" part of the bottom) compared to some others that retain more of a vee shape and ride a little better. With a flatter bottom, you are going to feel more of the waves and boat wake when you cross them. You can use the tabs and/or trim to lower the bow a bit, but not to the point of causing the boat to "bow steer", and that will help smooth out the ride a little bit. Staggered twins will be MUCH easier to work around, compared to side by side twins. I wanted to change a bilge blower in our 35 twin step lightning, but quickly gave up on that idea. I could barely see it yet alone get to it! Not sure how you would ever access the block drains, either!
