Re: 2006 42 Ex
I actually like the boat, It's just sick to see all the bolsters and upholstery butchered up for all the speakers. Once you've gone that route, there's no going back, at least not inexpensively. Most of the aftermarket audio stuff is usually installed poorly, wire nut connections, Scotch Lok crimp stuff that corrodes, etc. The best thing would be to send the boat to the factory, and restore the interior to it's former glory.

I like the race fairing a lot and I like the custom speaker install but there is something about the piant that looks airbushed to me and it has a cheap look. Maybe is the pictures and in person the paint is awesome. However the price sure is a good starting point to a great deal.

Re: 2006 42 Ex
Reggie needs some style changing. Loose the ugly bow and stern rails and the tube lights! Very 80's ! The all white is out!

Re: 2006 42 Ex
There was an 42EX for sale recently and it had no bow rails. The boat looked so much better. Ocean Performance ordered a 42 Lightning last year w/o rails and it looked great as well.

It's not Scott's bro in Laws boat...this is his 42.
I agree about the tube lights...should be LED. The boat, I think has a new owner. It looks great in person, paint and interior(Deck pic), I like the fact thats its one off...though the custom speakers on the rear of the bolsters is a bit much, but I bet It really jams. |

Rails look cool when powder coated but a pain in the arse to keep from chipping.

Re: 2006 42 Ex
how big of a job is it to remove the rails? I would like to powder coat mine white if it's easy enough to take them off. Do you have to pull the headliner down to access the bolts?
|
Re: 2006 42 Ex
Wrink, what would I do without you?
Yes, headliner has to be pulled. I would suggest using DuPont "lock-?" something. Can't remember exact stuff ( I will get if you need correct name). Anyway, it was done by our semi trk painter who does first class work, not cheap either. We use it to color the alum fuel tanks and straps on semi trks. 100k miles a year with all the road debris etc hitting the tanks everyday going down the hwy and the stuff really holds up well. Very few chips if any. Way tougher than powder coat, I had mine done and they were perfect for the last 3 yrs I owned the boat. Now you got me thinking again to do it, but it is so easy with the SS rails now. |
